Job summary
The Community Mental Health Team are excited to announce the position of
a Senior Psychological Therapist to enhance the
support they provide and to offer alternative psychological interventions to
service users presenting with complex needs or severe and enduring mental
illness. The successful candidate will be able to provide advice, guidance and
clinical supervision to members of the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)
working towards individual formulations for our service users. This is a vital
role with fulfilling our aim to increase the psychological offer across the
Community Mental Health Team.

Main duties of the job
Accountable
for own professional practice in the delivery of specialist psychological care
to clients with complex mental health conditions, which may include challenging
behaviours.
To be
compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families and
promote at all times a positive image of people with mental ill health and any
associated disabilities.
To provide
advice, guidance and clinical supervision to members of the Community Mental
Health Team (CMHT).
To support
the leadership team with the development of the Psychological Therapies
strategy and provide appropriate continued professional development to CMHT
staff.
To
be pro-active in continual service improvement within own area.

1Clinical
Responsibilities, Patient Contact
1.1 Provides
specialist psychological assessment of clients with complex conditions based on
the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of
sources.
1.2 Formulates
plans for specialist psychological therapy and/or management of clients mental
health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and
evidence-based practice. Negotiates the
implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.
1.3 Implements
a range of specialist psychological therapies for individual clients, carers,
families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as
required.
1.4 Evaluates
therapy options and makes decisions about treatment.
1.5 Responsible
for recognising the potential for, or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect,
including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all
reasonable steps to protect the client.
Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the
safeguarding of children who may be at risk.
1.6 Undertakes
risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and provides
specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk
assessment and risk management.
1.7 Liaises
regularly with other professionals involved with the clients care, ensuring
any concerns regarding welfare or risk to self or others is passed on in a
timely manner.
1.8 Provides
specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other staff
contributing directly to clients diagnosis, formulation and intervention plan.
1.9 Provide
clinical supervision and support to other trained professionals.
1.10 Support
with the development of non-qualified psychological professionals and trainees,
which may include supervision, teaching or support with their continued
professional development. This may also
include providing placements for local universities if deemed appropriate.
1.11 Participate
in working groups across the organisation, when agreed with line manager,
providing a psychological perspective and inputting on clinical pathways when
appropriate.
1.12 Managing
psychological therapy related referrals into the affiliated service, assessing
for suitability and leading on allocations where appropriate.
1.13 Maintaining
professional registrations and accredited status where required, meeting the
needs for continued professional development.

participate in formal research, as and when required.
