An exciting vacancy has arisen in our Older People's
Acute mental health team, Konar Suite, for a band 6 Senior Mental Health
Practitioner.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Practitioner will have the following roles and
responsibilities with, as the service takes shape, specific lead/supportive
responsibilities. The purpose of the
Acute Mental Health and Memory Service (AMHMS) is to provide a specialised
service which offers an alternative to hospital admission when possible or an
intensive inpatient programme of care with the philosophy bringing about early
discharge.

Job responsibilities
The Post
Holder will be expected to take responsibility for a number of tasks including:
1.Process
referrals and prioritise, risk assessment of service users who are in crisis
and may be displaying high risk behaviours and risk management plans.
2.The Post
Holder will be responsible for determining the level of acute mental health
need and the use of resources within AMHMS.
3.The Post
Holder will have to have an understanding of the relevant policies and their
application to related face to face physical aggression and associated actions,
eg COSHH, Infection Control, exposure to body fluids. Exposure to both verbal and physical
aggression.
4.The Post
Holder will be expected to professionally contribute and/or lead and manage
serious untoward incidents, challenging behaviours, ensuring all parties are
debriefed and supported.
5.The post
holder will be expected to be involved in and implement new and revised
policies within their own sphere of work.
6.Will offer
clinical supervision to staff from own discipline.

Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of issues involved in the treatment of mental illness for older people and relapse prevention
- Broad knowledge of risk assessments
Desirable
- Knowledge of the principles of nurse prescribing and the use of service users group directives/protocols
- Can demonstrate experience in audit and research
Experience
Essential
- Three years post-registration, 1 year of which at a senior level
- Experience working with clients with mental health problems of a severe and enduring nature
- Knowledge of relapse prevention
- IT Literacy
Desirable
- Psychosocial interventions
- Use of clinical assessment measures
- First Aid training

Qualifications

- A current professional qualification (RMN, Social worker, Occupational Therapy)

- D32/33 or ENB998 (equivalent)
