Job summary

This role is focussed around spending time with our service users and as such it is a privileged role that gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to peoples lives.

The role will support the multi-disciplinary team to delivery individualised care packages to a small group of service users with both mental health needs and/or a learning difficulties, who are either stepping down from low secure and locked rehabilitation placements or who are local service users requiring assessment and treatment for their enduring mental ill health. The aim of the post is to support recovery, independence, quality of life and well-being, through instilling hope and optimism in every service user so that they can reach their full potential.

You will be expected to increase your knowledge in one of the elements of recovery above to support senior staff to deliver specific interventions.

To provide daily updates to senior staff of individuals mood, behaviour, interaction, motivation and mental health so that plans of care can be reviewed accordingly.

Sensitively support individuals with activities of daily living with the goal to enhance these essential living skills.

To work without direct supervision, but with someone available to refer to, as and when required, either on or off site on a regular basis.

Help identify early signs of relapse by monitoring the services user progress, level of functioning and mental state and alert the appropriate staff involved in the persons care.

To support the service user to integrate into the local community to enable them to feel a sense of purpose and community.

To maintain informative electronic records as required.

To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

Be able to work flexibly within the different elements of the rehabilitation pathway when required.

CODE OF CONDUCT

As a support worker you are accountable to NAViGO for your conduct and you must:

Always act in a manner to promote and safeguard the interests and well-being of service users, their families, your colleagues and NAViGO

Report any concerns you may have in relation to the conduct of other staff, any adverse treatment of our service users and anything that may compromise the quality of the care that we provide

Work in collaboration with your colleagues to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, compassionate and effective care

Acknowledge any limitations in your knowledge and competence, declining any duties or responsibilities unless able to perform them in a safe and skilled manner

Maintain and improve your knowledge, skills and abilities to practice competently, undertaking further training if required

Strive to improve the quality of the care you provide through evidence of compliance with statutory, mandatory and service specific training to support your Continuing Professional Development

Ensure that no act or omission on your part or within your sphere of responsibility is detrimental to the interest, condition or safety of our service users or your colleagues

Work in an open and co-operative manner with other members of the team, service users and their families to promote independence whilst recognising and respecting their involvement in the delivery of care

Recognise and respect the uniqueness and dignity of each service user and respond to their need for care while upholding and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion

Avoid any abuse of your privileged relationship, maintaining appropriate boundaries with service users and colleagues

Respect and maintain all confidential information concerning service users obtained in the course of your work, except where non-disclosure would be detrimental to the service users well-being

Report in a correct manner, to an appropriate person or authority where it appears that the health, safety or welfare of individuals is at risk or where practice may compromise standards of care.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

The post holder may be required to drive a motor vehicle on a daily basis and assist Service Users with practical and leisure tasks eg. Carrying shopping, encouraging and partaking in sporting activities and may be required to assist with cleaning and other household matters in collaboration with the Service User, and elements of personal care.

The post holder will be expected to spend periods of time at a desk of computer workstation inputting information into the electronic clinical record.

The post holder will be expected to work a shift pattern over a twenty four hour period including weekends and public holidays.

The post holder will be required to concentrate for long periods of time up to 2 hours in length during the working shift.

The work may be unpredictable and subject to frequent interruptions according to Service User needs.

There is a requirement to spend time on a 1:1 basis with Service Users which will necessitate concentrating on the nature, content and method of communication.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT

The post holder is expected to work with people with severe and enduring mental health needs, learning disabilities and/or other complex needs and as such may be subject to emotionally distressing situations and information.

The post holder may be exposed to emotionally demanding situations such as Service Users in crisis on a daily basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The post holder is expected to work both within the inpatient rehabilitation unit and at times within the wider rehabilitation services in the community. There will be no set pattern to the individuals working environment depending on the work setting and could include office work, outside work, horticulture, kitchens and Service User homes and sporting facilities.

The post holder may be exposed to verbal and / or physical aggression on a daily basis and a number of times a shift.

The post holder may be required to lone work at times and will be required to follow the lone working policy.
