Job summary

We are seeking a passionate Senior Trainer with a commitment to person-centred care to join our small team and help make a significant impact on the lives of individuals and staff who may find themselves in challenging situations.

As a Senior Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality training programs to our current and new clients across the UK that empower individuals to de-escalate challenging behaviours and prevent the need for restrictive practices.

The successful applicant will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the confidence to deliver training to a varied customer base. You will be required to teach a range of physical interventions so a good level of fitness will be required.

You will be joining our British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) accredited team at a time where you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of our training programmes and the support services we offer our clients.

Main duties of the job

To work with new and existing clients in the design of tailored restraint reduction training programmes that are in line with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards - ensuring that the main focus is on de-escalation of behaviours of concern.

To deliver a range of restraint reduction training programmes.

To deliver annual refresher training to current clients.

To use feedback from clients and participants to continuously improve the training programmes that are offered.

To contribute to the ongoing quality assurance to ensure that Respect Training and its clients remain compliant with the RRN Standards.

You will possess a high level of self-awareness and the ability to build rapport with a wide range of people and the motivation and drive to make a positive difference to pepole's lives

About us

Respect Training believe in prioritising person-centred care, minimising the need for restrictive interventions, and fostering a sense of trust and well-being. Through our comprehensive training programs, we work with our customers to equip their staff with the expertise to proactively address challenging situations and implement de-escalation techniques, ultimately promoting safe and positive outcomes for all.

Our programmes are delivered throughout the UK and designed to provide BILD certified, tailored training that meets the differing needs and risks of individuals within the organisations we work with. Our customers are from a variety of backgrounds and include those supporting mental health services (adult / psychiatric intensive care units / older people and dementia), learning disabilities and autism. We work with NHS Trusts including acute hospitals, residential and nursing homes, schools, ambulance services, supported housing and individual families.

For a number of years Navigo have developed various trading arms that address gaps and opportunities in service delivery that are not financed by NHS statutory funding. All of our trading arms are developed as stand-alone enterprises with Navigo acting as the parent company and operating within the Navigo ethos. Trading arm employees are employed on a commercial contract with our trading company Nurtrio

The role of the senior trainer sits within Respect Training which is one of the trading arms of Navigo.

Respect Training were one of the first UK organisations to be certified by The British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) against the Restraint Reduction Network Standards (RRN) and were re-certified for an additional 3 years in December 2022.

Our goal is to support the organisations we work with in creating a culture of person-centred care that prevents and reduces the need for, and use of, restrictive interventions. Our training programmes focus on developing skills in pro-active intervention and de-escalation.

The programmes were developed in collaboration with service users and draw from daily experiences in front line care, feedback from the affiliates that we work closely with and our Expert by Experience who, as a service user of Navigo brings invaluable first-hand knowledge to the team.

Through our training we aim to increase the confidence and competence of our participants when they are supporting and managing people who present with behaviours of concern. Whether this is non-patient facing staff members, nursing and clinical teams working within a ward or home environment, or families and carers supporting loved ones at home, we offer the opportunity for individuals to enhance their skills and abilities to safely deal with what can often be challenging situations.

Our programmes are delivered throughout the UK and our clients are from a variety of backgrounds and include those supporting mental health services (adult / psychiatric intensive care units / older people and dementia), learning disabilities and autism. We work with NHS Trusts including acute hospitals, residential and nursing homes, schools, ambulance services, supported housing and individual families.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated person to join our team and who will have the opportunity to play a vital role in educating and empowering organisations, individuals, families, and carers to assist in reducing the use of restrictive practices and promoting positive behavioural support.

We are a small team therefore it will be essential that any applicants possess strong teamworking skills and attitudes.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The role of the Senior Trainer is a physically demanding role and they will be responsible for the effective delivery of the Respect Training restraint reduction theory and physical intervention components of the programmes that are offered.

The post holder will have working knowledge of restraint reduction theory and practice and will be required to work in a way that promotes the values, attitudes and philosophy of Respect Training.

They will work with current and new clients to ensure that training programmes are designed to meet and continue to meet their specific requirements.

The role holder will also be available to provide ongoing support to clients which may, at times, mean re-visiting them to work through any problems or issues they may have.

Due to the location of some of our clients, there will be occasions when the role holder will be required to stay away from home and in some instances, travel on a Sunday will be needed.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

To act as a role model for Respect Training at all times ensuring that every interaction with clients leaves them with a positive experience.

To deliver the theoretical and physical skills components of the restraint reduction training within Respect Trainings portfolio to a variety of clients ensuring that the atmosphere is conducive to group participation and discussion, and actively encouraging two-way communication.

To ensure that any training delivery is in line with current Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Standards and adheres to Respect Trainings attitudes and values.

Maintain knowledge and awareness of the RRN Training Standards and work with the wider team to ensure any changes are seamlessly incorporated into the relevant training programmes.

To keep abreast of wider trends in restraint reduction theory and practice and person-centred care.

To consistently and professionally assess the competence of participants during training and provide feedback to the client (including passing or referring participants).

To use feedback from clients and participants to input into the continuous improvement cycle in relation to the training programmes offered by Respect Training.

To ensure Respect Trainings compliance with British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) and the RRN Standards by:

- undertaking in situ observations of a percentage of Respect Trainings affiliate organisations training

- undertaking quality assurance activities with regard to affiliate organisations training and providing them with actionable feedback where relevant.

To ensure your personal compliance with BILD and RRN Standards by:

- attending your annual Respect recertification training including the submission of your personal portfolio

- updating knowledge and skills through continuous professional development.

- keeping relevant first aid qualification current

- completing mandatory training
