Continence Specialist Nurse

Job summary

The continence service provides care and support to adults and children within NEL who have a bladder or bowel problem. They liaise closely with community nursing colleagues, care home staff and GPs to ensure appropriate care is delivered. The Continence Service also provides education to other healthcare professionals to enable a high standard of clinical care to be delivered across disciplines within Care Plus Group.

Main duties of the job

Job title: Continence Specialist Nurse

Department: Continence Team

Base: Based at Val Waterhouse, but may be required to work at any location within North East Lincolnshire

Hours: 37.5 hours a week

Fixed Term for 9 Months

Salary Range 6 - £28,184 to £32,676 pro rata per annum

The Bladder and Bowel service offers specialist advice, support and treatment to people living within the North East Lincolnshire area. The service aims to provide timely specialist assessment and treatment of adults with complex continence problems, ensuring when required, that the most appropriate products are prescribed to manage their bladder and bowel symptoms. The service provides continence education and training and acts as a resource on matters relating to continence to patients and other health professionals.

The post holder will:

Independently manage a caseload of adults with complex, chronic, and progressive bladder and bowel disorders

Undertake a range of specialist clinics, comprehensive assessments, and provision of domiciliary visits to assess complex bladder and bowel health care needs.

Provision of specialist skills such as urinalysis and bladder scanning and interpret and act upon significant results. Include referrals to secondary care provider as appropriate and in compliance with NICE guidance

Will expected to undertake some managerial responsibilities.

Experience

Essential

  • 3 years post registration nursing
  • Experience and knowledge of safeguarding adults and working with vulnerable people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Experience working with adults with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction and ability to demonstrate good understanding of continence issues in adults.
