We are looking for a qualified nurse prescriber to work as part of our ADHD pathway, delivering assessment and management of the condition for children aged 6years plus.
You will have gained your prescriber qualification or be in the process of obtaining this to enable you to prescribe medication for ADHD. You will be a registered nurse.
Our ADHD team works within the wider child health service alongside paediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, health visitors, school nurses, community nurses and support staff.

Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the role:
- To facilitate the assessment and management of children and young people referred for ADHD in a variety of setting
- To provide behavioural support, education and advice to children with ADHD and their families, carers, health and educational and local authority professionals
- To work alongside the Paediatricians, and liaise with CAMHS / NELFT in selected cases, to provide an integrated service in line with NMC and local guidelines
- To work as an independent prescriber, alongside the medical team, to initiate, review and manage medication used to treat ADHD and sleep problems. If the post holder does not yet have the independent prescribing qualification, this needs to be applied for and achieved within the first 18 months of employment
- Be responsible for monitoring patient condition (physical and mental health) communicating change to other members of the team
- Facilitate nurse led clinics, both face to face and telephone consultations
- Attend patient related meetings to contribute to multi-disciplinary care
- Liaise with external agencies including social services, education and voluntary sector
- Promote the recognised needs of children and their families diagnosed with ADHD to improve social inclusion
- Work co-operatively with the Safeguarding Leads to ensure standards in Child Protection are developed and maintained
- Develop and maintain support and after care of services for children and families where there is a diagnosis of ADHD.
