Job summary

Are you a registered health care professional, nurse or therapist who has supported the Covid-19 vaccination programme in the past? or are you interested in supporting the ongoing vaccination programme?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support our Community Nursing Services with Autumn / Winter Flu and Covid-19 vaccinations for people in their own homes who are unable to access a vaccination site.

Main duties of the job

The role would be appropriate for a band 4 or 5 registered professional who will have successfully completed; or be supported by us to complete the appropriate immunisations and vaccinations training.

The successful candidates will ideally have experience of working with Patient Group Directives (PGDs) but this is not essential.

You must be competent in adult basic life support and management of anaphylaxis, as well as other mandatory trainings required.

Updates of training can be given if you are successful.

The successful candidates will have excellent communication and IT skillsas data entry and notes will need to be completed

You need to be a car driver with access to a car.

Job responsibilities

2. Job Purpose

  • To support the Community Nursing Services with Autumn/Winter Flu and Covid-19 vaccinations for people in their own home and in Nursing, Residential and Learning Disability care homes within Kingston

3. Dimensions

To be able to work collaboratively across all community and primary care systems in organising, coordinating and administration of Flu/Covid-19 vaccines

To ensure the safe handling, storage, and administration of vaccinations as per current PGDs and the up-to-date National Protocol

To demonstrate an excellent level of communication skills to ensure the patients; their relatives and where relevant, the staff in care homes have a clear understanding of the procedures

To continually promote and support the delivery of the Flu and Covid-19 vaccinations

To provide the advice to all patients, relatives, carers and care homes staff as per PGD and the National Protocol

Ensure that patients are treated safely and courteously, while minimising distress and discomfort throughout the procedure

To work autonomously and as part of a team as necessary

To check patient details against the forms completed to ensure the accurate and complete documentation

To recognise an unwell patient or symptoms of anaphylaxis and act in accordance with current guidelines

To follow all appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

To ensure correct vaccination technique as per training provided

To minimise wastage of vaccinations by appropriate stock rotation and efficient planning

To check and enter patient data into software database in a timely way and document care in EPR system.

To be able to travel across different locations

To dispose of clinical waste as per local guidelines

To ensure use of PPE as per national guidelines and adhere to infection control practices between individuals

Set up/configuration of the vaccination station
