Exciting Bank opportunities have arisen to join our team at South Bristol Community Hospital (SBCH). This is within the Rehab Unit and Urgent Treatment Centre. D.O.E.
As a HCA or Rehab Support Worker, you will provide support and compassionate care centered around the core principles of recovery and stroke rehabilitation and the patients wishes.
Our Rehab and Stroke units meet the needs of people who are unable to return home immediately after a hospital stay as they need specialist rehabilitation following their stroke. Whilst our UTC is for emergencies and day treatments.
The units consist of 30 beds at South Bristol Community Hospital. The team provides a safe environment where individuals who are medically stable can receive rehabilitation assessment, along with focused therapy and support from our multidisciplinary team, to support independence before they return home.
This role will require you to provide personal care to service users e.g. washing and dressing, monitor and record clinical observations, support patients to eat and drink and assisting patients to move around. Manual Handling is essential.
We have opportunities across both units, as well as our Urgent Treatment Centre which is located on the bottom floor of SBCH.
Please note that the interviews will be held face to face at South Bristol Community Hospital on 1st November. The interview will include a meet and greet with the SBCH staff, a unit tour and a practical skills assessment.
Main duties of the job
Work as part of a multi professional team to support the registered nursing and allied healthcare professionals in delivering clinical and therapeutic care to service users across the Rehab & Stroke units and UTC.
Contribute to the prevention of harm by participating risk assessments such as nutrition, pressure area care, continence and falls.
Provide and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all patients and carers and seek further advice from trained staff if an emergency situation should arise
Assist patients to mobilise safely using equipment and techniques prescribed and recorded in their plan of care.
Support patient centered rehabilitation to facilitate safe and timely discharges and which reflects individual choice and maximising independence.
To communicate effectively with patients and other stakeholders verbally, in writing and electronically using E-mail
Will carry out extended roles once trained and competent to do so; examples of this may include:
- Venepuncture
- Administration of insulin
- Administration of influenza vaccinations
- Wound care
- Administration of Clexane
- ECG
