Job summary
AnUrgent Care Practitioner is a qualified healthcare professional (typically a nurse, paramedic, or physician associate) who assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients presenting with urgent but non-life-threatening conditions. UCPs work autonomously or as part of a multidisciplinary team in fast-paced environments that bridge the gap between primary care and emergency services.
Main duties of the job

Clinical Assessment:

Triage and assess patients with a range of minor injuries and minor illnesses, such as cuts, sprains, minor burns, simple fractures, and head injuries.

Take detailed medical histories and perform physical examinations.

Diagnosis & Treatment:

Diagnose and initiate treatment plans.

Carry out procedures such as wound closure (glue, steri-strips, suturing), applying plaster casts or splints, administering injections, and prescribing medications (if qualified).

Decision-Making & Referral:

Determine whether patients can be managed in the unit or need referral to emergency departments, GPs, or other services.

Request and interpret x-rays or other diagnostic tests (depending on scope of practice).

Health Education & Documentation:

Advise patients on injury prevention, aftercare, and health promotion.

Accurately document assessments, decisions, and treatments in patient records.
