Positive Behaviour Support Clinical Specialist - Development Post

Job summary

The Positive Behaviour Support Team consists of practitioners with specialist experience of working with complex individuals who display behaviour that may challenge. We supports individuals, families and carers to understand function of behaviour and identify person centred strategies that can address triggers of behaviour, developing these into a positive behaviour support plan.

Our ethos is proactive, person centred support that improves the quality of life of the individuals supported and prevents placement breakdown and possible admission to hospital.

The Sirona Adult Learning Disability Health (ALDH) Service is a centre of excellence for specialist learning disability health needs. We cover 3 localities where multidisciplinary teams enable our service users to access health services through direct care, liaison with other services and offering support and training on how to work with people who have a learning disability and how to make reasonable adjustments.

The service prides itself on delivering high quality support to service users with a variety of physical and mental health issues alongside their Learning Disability. All staff are required to use a range of communication and listening skills to work effectively with our service users.

Where necessary you will be required to work at other bases.

Main duties of the job

To plan and deliver specialist behavioural support to people with a learning disability who have behaviours that may challenge.
To work holistically with service users to assess and understand their physical, psychological and behavioural needs and how these impact upon the service user
To design and deliver training and education to a variety of staff, paid carers, families and external agencies regarding Positive Behaviour Support.
To provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other agencies regarding PBS.
To meet the needs of service users from a diverse background, respecting physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, genetic and environmental factors, in line with local policy.
To provide advice, guidance and consultation regarding positive behaviour support.
To contribute to the review and development of the Positive Behaviour Support Pathway in liaison with PBS Leads.

Experience of implementing a positive behavioural support approach
Ability to complete specialist functional behavioural assessments and undertake functional analysis of data
Experience of working with people who may display behaviour that may challenge
Knowledge of safeguarding adults procedures, reporting concerns and adverse events
Experience of service improvement and development
Effective communication using IT, written, verbal & non-verbal skills
Experience of clinical and management supervision of others

Desirable

Experience of planning developing and presenting training to other professional, service users and their support networks
Experience of working within a community learning disability service
Experience of mentoring and supporting students in practice

Qualifications & Training

Essential

Post Graduate qualification in Positive Behaviour Support or equivalent
2:1 Degree or recognised equivalent qualification
Professional registration (NMC/HCPC)
Documented evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

Student Assessor / supervisor/mentoring qualification
Training in supporting mental health needs of people with a learning disability
