Job summary

The purpose of this role is to provide strong, visible, and credible senior clinical leadership and direction to the positive behaviour support (PBS) staff within the Adult Learning Disability Health Service (ALDHS) and to act as a senior leader within the multi-disciplinary service, providing support and advice to staff across the service as required.Clinical Leads are experienced clinicians who are able to jointly lead and, in partnership with Clinical and Operational Leads, Service managers, other clinical and locality leads across BNSSG, develop and support service improvements and strategic plans and initiatives. They will work closely with all partners including primary care, secondary care, the Local Authority and Third sector to ensure clear pathways for patients. The Clinical Lead-PBS will provide clinical and managerial supervision of the ALDH PBS staff. This will also include responsibility for directly supporting the care and treatment of service users, carrying a small complex clinical caseload for those requiring a high level of expertise and experience. The post holder will work closely with ALDHS leadership team colleagues to ensure consistent delivery of holistic multi-disciplinary, safe, and effective care and maintain a strong multi-professional ethos of respect, understanding and contributing to the delivery of Sirona's vision and values. To provide clinical oversight and quality assurance of associated multi-disciplinary pathways of care.

Main duties of the job

The ALDH Clinical Lead - PBS will directly line manage senior PBS staff including responsibility for HR processes, Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) and to support the locality leads to ensure effective induction into the multi-disciplinary team and staff wellbeing . To be responsible for implementing the PBS Pathway, taking a multi-disciplinary approach and holistic view of health needs of the service users. Act as a role model and resource for staff within the ALDH service, supporting professional development and expertise both for PBS staff and across the multi-disciplinary team.

Act as a highly specialised source of clinical expertise undertaking functional behaviour assessments of adults with a learning disability, their families and carers and directly delivering therapeutic interventions including PBS plans and training where relevant. Interpret and analyse sensitive clinical and non-clinical information using advanced investigative and analytical skills daily. This will frequently include patients with multiple pathologies, often where conflicting evidence is present.Oversee and prioritise clinical caseloads to ensure equitable access across the ALDH service, managing staff capacity and providing an urgent response where required. To ensure flexible, effective service delivery, that is responsive to the needs of the service users and their carers and to the changing demands of the local health community

Essential

  • Current NMC or HCPC registration
  • Successful completion of a relevant post-graduate in positive behaviour support or equivalent
  • Have the skills and competency to work with service users with complex needs and associated risk (e.g. behaviours that challenge, mental illness)
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
  • Demonstrate high level analytical and complex decision-making skills
  • Hold a UK Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle during working hours.
  • Knowledge of legal issues relating to the care of people such as Data Protection Act, Adult Protection procedures and the Mental Capacity Act.

Desirable

  • Coaching / Teaching and Assessing qualification / experience.
  • Knowledge of local, national, strategic and operational policy developments and an awareness of their implications.
  • Understanding of the primary care, secondary care and provider interface.
  • Post-qualification leadership skills training

  • Ability to reflect and change practice and/or approach when necessary.
