We
are looking for highly knowledgeable applicants with significant MSK experience
to work in our dynamic MSK Foot and Ankle Service in Bristol, North Somerset,
and South Gloucestershire. As a member of this workforce, you will be part of
an integrated MSK Foot and Ankle service working closely with Podiatry,
Physiotherapy and MSK Interface, ensuring high quality of care is provided for
patients.
As
an autonomous practitioner you will provide high level clinical assessment and
management plans for patients, often with challenging presentations and complex
needs. Using an evidence based and shared decision-making approach you will be
carrying out orthopaedic triage assessment with an advanced practice skill set.
You will have the ability to image, inject and directly refer on to secondary
care.
There is a competency
framework supporting the successful applicant to progress into an 8a position
within with MSK Foot and Ankle service. If you already have experience working

Main duties of the job
Progression through the competency framework and upon completion you will deliver:
- Assessment of patients using
expert knowledge, advanced differential diagnostic skills, expert pattern
recognition, executing highly skilled physical examinations to form shared
decision making and care planning in complex patients with MSK Foot and Ankle
conditions.
- Independently refer for and
demonstrate a specialist understanding of diagnostic investigations, including
sensitivity and specificity of different investigations for specific conditions
in the context of the individual patient.
- Independently process results of
test findings and make appropriate plans for best evidence treatment with
patients.
- Demonstrate highly specialised
knowledge of the use of injection therapy and medication in management of
certain MSK and Rheumatological conditions, clinically reasoning when to offer
injection therapy as part of shared decision making and when it is
contra-indicated.
- Required to refer through and
demonstrate highly specialised knowledge of pathways for all MSK conditions,
including orthopaedic, neurology, rheumatology, community therapy and pain
services.
- Provide operational and clinical
leadership for the service. Contributing to service evaluation, understanding populations
needs and ensuring links with the wider system to develop more effective and
streamlined clinical pathways. Providing education and supervision of clinicians, facilitating a learning culture to develop others.

- Completion of an undergraduate diploma / degree in Podiatry.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Able to demonstrate in practice portfolio experience in core podiatry and MSK podiatry.
- Demonstrates self-development through continuous professional development activity.
- Evidence of working as a clinical supervisor, designing, developing and delivering programmes of learning in line with evidence-based practice, to peers and junior staff.
Desirable
- Member of the Royal College of Podiatrists
- Can demonstrate working at a Masters level/ Level 7. E.g. Masters modules.
- Completion of relevant Leadership and/ or management training course.
- Evidence of current or previous completion of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) and experience of referring for diagnostic investigations.
