Job summary
The Childrens Continence Service is really excited to be expanding our team so we can offer a more comprehensive provision of continence care for children and their families across BNSSG. By providing early intervention and support for children and young people with continence problems, it enables better outcomes for children and prevents not only attendance at accident and emergency departments, hospital admissions and unnecessary referral to secondary care, but also the social and emotional impact associated with the delay in achieving continence.
This is a newly developed role which will involve receiving training to deliver packages of care to parents of children and young people who are yet to achieve toilet training/continence, we offer an individualised induction programme to ensure that all new starters are supported to be confident and competent within this role. If you do not currently have clinical experience of childrens continence but have transferrable skills and are passionate about continence, do get in touch to find out more.
Opportunities to attend training, conferences, and study days, relating to continence issues in children and young people will be provided. Above all, your compassion will mean that together we can make a difference.
Core Service hours are currently between 8am and 5pm, MonFri.
We have two opportunities available, one for 22.5 hours (3 days per week) and one for 29 hours (4 days per week).
Main duties of the job
You will be required to provide support to children and young people who have not yet achieved continence and who are experiencing difficulties with toilet training. You will work independently using your own initiative, organisational and time management skills and work autonomously with regular supervision to promote healthy bladder and bowels in children and young people, assisting them to reach their full potential in attaining continence.
The post holder is required to be a motivated team member who will work innovatively and with a high standard of practice that is research based.
An ability to undertake a holistic child centred assessment of needs is required.
The role requires good communication skills to establish effective and efficient working relationships with children / young people, parents / carers and other health professionals.
You need to be able to remain calm under pressure, work flexibly and travel within BNSSG, to meet the needs of the service.
You are required to adhere to national, organisational and departmental procedures, protocols and guidelines and at all times to act in accordance with professional code of conduct
The role encompasses responsibility for service delivery and patient safety, and the opportunity to develop skills in both independent and team working.
A full driving licence and car will be essential to the post holder due to the large geographical area that has to be covered.
