Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team based within First Community Health and Care.

First Community Health and Care is a staff-led social enterprise providing NHS services in South East Surrey.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and organised person who has experience of working with young children and their families, and has an interest in supporting communication development.

This role is suited to someone looking for a new challenge and/or development opportunity. You will need to have the ability to work on your own, as well as part of a team. We will provide training and professional development opportunities.

This role is 22.5 hours, we will consider flexible working options and term time only hours.

Main duties of the job

Working as a member of our Early Years Team you will provide Speech and Language Therapy Intervention for children aged 0-5 with a range of diagnoses including Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Social Communication differences, Down Syndrome.

You will see children within a variety of settings, including nurseries, schools, homes and our childrens clinic, where you will carry out essential duties within the speech and language therapy process, guided by a Speech and Language Therapist

Due to the nature of the role, a valid UK full driving licence and car is essential.

  • GCSE English Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Relevant qualification e.g. BTech or NVQ level 3, or working towards
  • Evidence of Personal Development

Experience

Essential

  • Paid or voluntary work with pre-school children
  • Paid or voluntary work with relevant care/client group
  • Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary Team
  • Evidence of specific knowledge relating to client group/ profession

Desirable

  • Understanding of the range of Speech and Language Therapy offered for children and the role of the SLT assistant within the NHS and Education settings
  • Specific SLT training eg ELKLAN, Makaton etc.
