We look for individuals with a strong approach to teamwork, who can demonstrate initiative and have a good understanding of children, young people and their families.

Our ideal candidate would be a clinical practitioner with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who has a thorough knowledge of child development.

Main duties of the job

The Community Nursery Nurse (CNN) works as part of the 0-19 team to ensure children have the opportunity to reach their full health & well being potential. Following the recommendations in the Healthy Child Programme, the CNN works in collaboration with Health Visitors and Community Staff Nurses to assess, plan and offer early support and appropriate health related interventions to support families and their children.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be a member of the 0-19 public health team assisting and supporting the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme universal core service, providing a high standard of care and delivery of an evidenced based and needs led service to improve health outcomes for children and families. Carrying out assigned tasks for children, young people and families as directed and under the supervision of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse or Clinical Team Leader

Principal duties to include:

  • Deliver packages of care to support families both in the home and clinic settings as directed by SCPHN, maintaining close liaison with the health care professional who is responsible for the workload.
  • Make contact with children and families in a variety of community settings e.g. school, home, children centres
  • Participate in the delivery of universal 0-19 HCP developmental reviews using ASQ questionnaires as appropriate or directed
  • Support school screening under direction of SCPHN school nurse
  • Undertake continence assessments and reassessments as directed by school nurse
  • Participate in Child Health Clinics
  • Build and develop good working relationships with childrens centres, school and wider multi -disciplinary team
  • Support families in relation to infant/ child nutrition in the clinic, home or other setting in line with Baby Friendly Initiative
  • Carry out home visits to selected families to teach play skills and promote early learning through demonstration and shared activities
  • Contribute to health promotion activities under the direction of SCPHN health visitor and school nurse e.g. home visits, groups, community events, display boards.
  • Assist in running children and family focused groups e.g. introducing solids .
  • Take appropriate action in cases of suspected or actual child abuse, working within own competencies and Surrey safeguarding code of practice and procedures and participate in safeguarding supervision
  • Take an active part in clinical supervision
  • Contribute to nursing student experiences in facilitating opportunities to shadow at health contacts
