Job summary

This is an opportunity for someone who is looking for a remote or face-to-face role. We welcome applications from those interested in either pattern of working.

We are a friendly team of Speech Therapists and Speech Therapy Assistants committed to delivering high quality patient care. We are based in Woking Community Hospital and work across the North West Surrey area, treating adults with acquired neurological conditions such as stroke, Motor Neurone disease, Parkinson's disease and dementia. Patients are seen in a variety of locations including out-patient clinics, wards and domiciliary settings. Our team also provides a community-led FEES services, which delivers benefits to patient management and experience.

Our team of clinicians have wide-ranging expertise, and peer support is always readily accessible. The post holder will have access to regular clinical supervision and CPD opportunities, in line with their agreed personal development plan.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with the required clinical knowledge and skills to work independently with patients, many of whom have complex communication and swallowing difficulties. Experience of community working is preferred but not essential.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist swallowing and communication assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions for patients in a variety of settings, which may include outpatient clinics, and/or patients' homes
  • To provide advice, support and education for patients and their families/Carers
  • To offer training to students, and other Health Care Professionals.
  • To be able to work independently and as part of a Team
  • To participate in innovative projects and service development to benefit patients and colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Hold a current, recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree/Qualification. Registered with the Health Professions Council Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Evidence of postgraduate courses/CPD in relevant fields e.g dysphagia trained. Evidence of continuing professional development with identifiable outcomes.

Desirable

  • Member of and regular attendance at relevant Clinical Excellence Networks.

Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance and audit Knowledge of standards of record keeping. Knowledge and experience of working with Adults with dysphagia and communication difficulties. Experience of assisting with training and supporting students/colleagues. Experience of setting patient centered goals & providing outcomes.

Desirable

  • Experience of working on wards or in outpatient clinics. Updated knowledge of National Policies and procedures relevant to SLT service. Evidence of maintaining and ongoing development of clinical skills and theoretical knowledge in area of clinical specialism.

  • Good presentation skills, both verbal & written. Excellent interpersonal skills, including advanced observation, empathy and listening. Able to work as part of a Team but also using own initiative. Good organisational and problem solving skills. Committed to personal/professional development and skill acquisition.
