An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join our dedicated and highly motivated team of Special School Nurses/Assistant Practitioners in Surrey. This post is based at Brooklands school for pupils aged 2-11years old who have severe learning disability with additional health needs.

We ask for a Children's, Adult or Learning disability Nurse with a minimum of 3 years post registration clinical experience working with children young people with additional health needs.

Your role will focus on ensuring pupils have access to the school day regardless of the complexity of their needs within this setting.

You will lead a small nursing team, managing the day to day nursing care to support the children and their families. You will lead on delivering our competency based training programs to education staff who support pupils with nursing interventions in the classroom. There is partnership agency working across health, education and social care including outreach to other local LD schools to achieve better health outcomes for children and young people.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

Lead a small based special school nursing team within the school and responsible for registered nurse and assistant practitioner.

Respond and lead on medical emergencies.

Oversee a range of nursing assessments.

Oversee Care planning.

Train educational staff in nursing procedures including gastrostomy and tracheostomy care using evidenced based competencies.

Oversee Medication management within the school

Lead on health related Child Protection concerns in partnership with the school and social care.

Contribute to EHCP and multi-agency meetings.

Mentor pre-registration nursing students

Support SSN team with nurse led and assistant practitioner led clinics.

Outreach to LD local school
