Main duties of the job

In this role, you will be the Lead Professional for a complex and varied caseload, focusing on the island's most vulnerable children and young people. Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide a high-quality, professional social work service within the Family Placement Service (Fostering and Adoption). The post-holder will be responsible for the assessment, supervision, and support of foster carers and adoptive parents, ensuring that children and young people are placed in safe, stable, and nurturing family environments that promote their long-term wellbeing and development.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1. Assessment and Approval

  • To undertake comprehensive and evidence-based assessments of prospective foster carers and adopters in accordance with statutory regulations, national standards, and local policies.

  • To prepare detailed Form F assessment reports and present these to the Fostering and Adoption Panel, providing clear recommendations.

  • To participate in panel meetings, effectively presenting and defending assessments.

2.2. Support and Supervision

  • To provide regular, structured supervision and support to a caseload of approved foster carers and adoptive families.

  • To develop and review foster carer agreements and support plans, ensuring they remain relevant and effective.

  • To respond proactively to the needs of carers, offering crisis intervention, advice, and guidance as required.

2.3. Service Delivery and Safeguarding

  • To work in partnership with children, birth families, foster carers, adopters, and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

  • To contribute to the matching of children with suitable foster or adoptive families, considering the childs needs and the familys skills and experience.

  • To maintain high-quality, accurate, and timely case records in line with data protection and confidentiality policies.

2.4. Professional Development

  • To maintain active registration with Social Work England and adhere to the professional standards and code of ethics.

  • To participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills.
