Are you a dedicated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist looking for a fulfilling community role in a stunning coastal location?

Join Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust on a long-term locum basis and become a vital part of our community adult services team. Based in Scarborough with coverage across Malton and Whitby, you will autonomously manage a diverse caseload, providing essential assessment and intervention for adults with communication and swallowing needs.

Main duties of the job

In this autonomous community role, you will be the specialist for a defined adult caseload, managing the full patient journey from initial assessment through to diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation. Your core focus will be delivering high-quality, person-centred interventions for communication and swallowing difficulties.

A key part of your role involves working in close partnership with a wider multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families to develop and implement effective care plans. You will also be responsible for maintaining meticulous clinical records to ensure the highest standards of practice and continuity of care

Job responsibilities

To provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to adults with communication and swallowing difficulties within a community setting, working autonomously to manage a defined caseload and providing specialist advice and support to the wider multidisciplinary team.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical

  • To autonomously manage a specialist caseload of clients with a range of communication and swallowing disorders, demonstrating advanced problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills.

  • To select, administer, and interpret appropriate formal and informal assessments to accurately diagnose and formulate individualised treatment plans.

  • To plan, implement, and evaluate specialist therapy programmes, adapting methods to meet individual patient needs and changing clinical circumstances.

  • To provide specialist advice, guidance, and second opinions to colleagues, other health professionals, and carers regarding the management of patients.

  • To work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, participating actively in case conferences, meetings, and care planning reviews.

  • To provide education and training to patients, carers, and other professionals as required.

  • To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient records in line with professional and Trust standards.

Professional

  • To be registered with and adhere to the professional standards set by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • To participate in clinical supervision and the Trusts appraisal process.

  • To undertake continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain and develop specialist knowledge and skills.

  • Qualifications: Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification. Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience: Significant post-qualification experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist, including experience with adult acquired disorders. Evidence of managing a complex caseload autonomously.
  • Skills & Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of assessment and therapeutic interventions for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Other: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
