Job summary
The Trainee Parent Training (PT) Practitioner post will help develop key skills required to be an evidence-based practitioner working in Parent Training.
The post is open to applicants:
With 2 years experience working with parents/children, young people or families.
Or a recognised core profession (4 years experience).
Or the ability to evidence equivalent knowledge and skills evidenced by formal degree or completion of a qualifying essay.
You will work under supervision whilst undertaking a PGDip with the CYP/IAPT Psychological Therapies Training Centre. The training post will equip you to provide interventions for children, young people or families referred to the service, using the core principles of CYP/IAPT practice along with an evidence-based intervention consistent with the course they are attending.
Successful completion of the course will enable the award of the graduate or post graduate diploma, plus eligibility for Individual Evidence Based Parent Practitioner BABCP Accreditation.
Main duties of the job
Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2026 (dates to be confirmed) and commit to attendance at all University based taught and self-study days required by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) Psychological Therapies Training Centre.
Students will obtain clinical experience in Incredible Years group delivery and individual home coach training for children between 3 and 10 years old and their parents/carers. The course will consist of model specific supervision in Incredible Years and include teaching on PT skills-based workshops, as well as evidence-based theory and literature relating to supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children between the ages of 3 and 10 years old and their parents/carers.
