Job summary
The Trainee 0-2 Practitioner post will help develop key skills needed to be an evidence-based practitioner working with parents & infants, gaining accreditation in Video Interaction Guidance to support parent-child attachment, addressing parental mental difficulties & wider systemic factors.

With experience working with infants, young children & families (2 years in relevant core profession or 4 years in early years/family support/child development evidenced by KSA portfolio).

Who can work to level 7 academic standard (evidenced by formal degree or completion of a qualifying essay)
Asa Post Graduate Certificatetrainee, you will deliver evidence based, client centred care to children & young people with mental health problems within the THRIVE Framework for service delivery & in line with the training programme.
You will work under supervision whilst undertaking a PGCert with the CYP/IAPT Psychological Therapies Training Centre. The training post will equip you to provide interventions for children, young people or families referred to the service, using the core principles of CYP/IAPT practice along with an evidence-based intervention consistent with the course.
Successful students will gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Evidence Based Treatments in Working with 0-2s obtaining clinical experience in Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) as an attachment-based intervention when working with infants & children aged 0-2 years & their parents/carers.
Main duties of the job
Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2026 (dates to be confirmed) and commit to attendance at all University based taught and self-study days required by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) Psychological Therapies Training Centre.
The successful candidate will follow a Post Graduate Certificate structure including:
- Early Years Knowledge, Theory & Frameworks
- Early Years Assessment & Formulation
- Evidence based Interventions
The course will provide model specific supervision in VIG as well as teaching on both VIG skills-based workshops and evidence-based theory and literature relating to supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of 0-2s and their parents/carers.
