Action for Deafness delivers audiology services for NHS Sussex, as well as supporting charitable services for Deaf and hard of hearing people. We are seeking a qualified audiologist to join our team.

The role is 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday. Part-time or job share applicants could be considered.

Main duties of the job

The role's purpose is to provide a professional and effective audiology service for mainly NHS and some private patients. It is primarily based in Haywards Heath, and may occasionally work in Hailsham, Steyning or Worthing.

Principal responsibilities include:

- Diagnostic pure tone audiometry to BSA Standard

- Undertaking aural impressions and ear-mould selection

- Full working knowledge of NHS and Private digital hearing aids/software

- Appropriate counselling to patients relating to their hearing loss and aid

- Working effectively as part of the team, with excellent communication and administrative abilities

About us

Action For Deafness is a charity that has supported Deaf and hard of hearing people for over 30 years. A large part of our work is providing an adult audiology service for NHS Sussex. We prioritise the quality of patient care and are IQIPSv2 accredited.

You would join a supportive and professional team of seven audiologists and seven operational staff at four sites in Sussex.

Job Title: Audiologist

Reports to: Clinical Lead

Primary Objectives: To provide a professional and effective Audiology service for Action for Deafness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform diagnostic pure tone audiometry to BSA Standard

- Perform otoscopy and examine the ear to identify any obscure pathology

- Recognise contraindications as set out by NHS contract

- Be competent in undertaking aural impressions and ear-mould selection

- Ability to programme and fit using rear ear insertion, gain technique when safe to do so

- Have a full working knowledge of NHS and Private digital hearing aids/software

- Working knowledge of hearing instrument test box

- Ability to provide appropriate counselling to patients relating to their hearing loss and aid

- Complete COSI at initial assessment and follow-up appointment

- Maintain a full repair service for NHS and Private digital hearing aids

- Cover any ad-hoc appointments if required

- Daily administration required to maintain an effective service

Qualifications: One or more of the following: FdSc/BSc/MSc audiology, or any other recognised audiology qualification, and be HCPC/RCCP-registered

Working Relationships: Maintain good communications with staff, other service providers, manufacturers, General Practitioners and NHS

- Excellent keyboard skills

- Proven organisational ability

- A commitment to ensuring high standards of patient care while maintaining service delivery
