Job summary

To work closely with the Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) team and be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary Team (MDT).

To support the Speech and Language Therapists in providing a SaLT service for all students at Millie College with the aim of maximising their communication and language potential

To take responsibility for the planning of sessions; both group and 1-1 sessions as advised by the Speech and Language Therapists

To offer support and ideas for the future development of the SaLT service with the aim of maintaining a high-quality service.

Therapies at Millie College form part of the integrated delivery model, where therapies are functional, have purpose and demonstrate a meaningful benefit. Therapies are needs-led, regularly monitored and integrated into the student's college day.

To have collective responsibility for safeguarding all students and contribute to the safeguarding policies and procedures for Millie College.

To carry out a therapeutic programme of work alone and without direct supervision.

To monitor the students progress and recognise when to discuss any changes with the Speech and Language Therapists

To encourage students and other staff members in an active approach to developing communication and language. This requires empathy, sensitivity and excellent interpersonal skills.

Livability Millie College (near Poole) sits within a group of specialist education provisions; this group comprises a special independent school (Victoria School in Poole) and a specialist college provision (Nash College in Bromley). Each of these settings caters for a wide range of learning needs and disabilities, including autism and physical disabilities.

Livability Millie College is a post 16-25 education setting helping young people with a range of learning and physical disabilities in Dorset and the local area, bridging the gap between education and employment. Students are supported with personalised learning programmes which build confidence and independence, underpinned by a focus on wellbeing.

It is a one-of-a-kind work environment, set on a 350-acre countryside site near Poole. The colleges curriculum is directly aligned to its natural environment and the enterprise activities that operate there, including animal care, catering and retail, conservation and horticulture.

Students are supported with personalised learning programmes which build confidence and independence, underpinned by a focus on wellbeing.
