About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for either a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our innovative and friendly multidisciplinary team. Our team of experienced clinicians offer a range of specialist therapy interventions to survivors of torture.
If you are aware of the challenges experienced by survivors of torture, and are able to provide trauma-focussed and other targeted therapy, you may be the person we are looking for.
We are committed to clinical development, and offer all our psychological therapists the opportunity to train in EMDR and Narrative Exposure Therapy.
Main duties of the job
For Clinical/Counselling PsychologistYou must be qualified in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, (you will be trained to doctorate level or an equivalent vocational level 7). Additionally you must have experience of providing trauma focussed therapy in a multi-cultural setting. Freedom from Torture usesevidence based approaches including trauma focused CBT, NET and EMDR, so it would be ideal if you have experience of using at least one of these approaches.
It is also essential that you are registered to practice as a clinical or counselling psychologist with HCPC.
The role involves developing links and networks with local universities to promote placement opportunities for trainee Clinical and / or Counselling Psychologists. You will also be responsible for offering supervision to trainees.For Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (Adults)You must be qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and be an accredited member of BABCP. Freedom from Torture usesevidence based approaches to trauma therapy including trauma focused CBT, NET and EMDR, so it would be ideal if you have experience of using at least one of these approaches. You must have experience of providing psychological therapy in a multi-cultural setting.You will also be responsible for the supervision of CBT trainees and volunteers.

1.To provide individual/couple and/or group therapy sessions to survivors of torture and organised violence and manage an appropriate caseload, ensuring that regular reviews, risk assessments and outcome measures are undertaken.
2.To assess the service users needs and create an appropriate, jointly agreed treatment plan which is reviewed regularly with the service user and in collaboration with the clinical team. To offer a range of psychotherapeutic interventions based on client need.
3.To maintain appropriate clinical records of assessments, clinical work/group interventions and keep the FfT client database updated at all times. To provide clinical evidence in the form of reports and clinical letters to the standard required by the Medical Legal Reports Team
4.To comply with clinical governance protocols and implementation of good practice, including all FfT clinical policies and standards
5.To work holistically in support of clients care, ensuring appropriate onward internal and external referrals are undertaken to address client needs.

- Qualified in a relevant discipline e.g. Diploma in Counselling, Group or individual Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
- Accredited by and Member of a relevant professional body (BACP, UKCP, BABCP, HCPC)
- Knowledge of relevant mental health law and including the Mental Health Act and other relevant safeguarding legislation
- Knowledge of at least one evidence based approach to trauma therapy including trauma focused CBT, NET and EMDR sufficient to be able to deploy this model clinically under supervision
Desirable
- An understanding of the experience of refugees and people seeking asylum, both in terms of pre-flight experience and the experience of living in exile.
- Knowledge of current legislation affecting people seeking asylum.
