Aphasia Support is looking
to recruit Consultant Speech & Language Therapists to provide the following
support in Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Bradford.
Complete assessments of new referrals into the
charity across these areas, ensuring our support is appropriate at all times.
Complete reviews of clients progress at
specific points along their support journey.
Provide guidance to staff and volunteers to ensure appropriate and quality support.
We are looking for a band
6 or 7 SLT with a strong knowledge of life after stroke services and a passion
for providing long term communication support for people with aphasia and their
families. Consultants will work closely with the charity's in house Community
Engagement staff and volunteers to ensure a high quality of support is provided
to people with aphasia and their families.
This is a maternity cover role, however there may be further opportunities within the charity once maternity cover is over. We expect that we may recruit more than 1 person into this role due to the geography involved.

Qualifications
Essential
- Hold a recognised speech and language therapy degree accredited by RCSLT
- HPC Registered to practice as a SLT
- Registered member of RCSLT
Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience as an SLT supporting people with communication difficulties such as aphasia and apraxia of speech
- Ability to perform specialised SLT assessments which will form the basis for support plans
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the national stroke service model, and in particular life after stroke services
- Strong knowledge of computer therapy apps to support communication goals, including AAC for people with aphasia and apraxia of speech
- Strong knowledge and understanding of supported conversation techniques

- Strong evidence of participation in service development initiatives

- An extensive portfolio and evidence of advanced personal and advanced/highly specialist professional development with skills, experience and achieved outcomes
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills

- Ability to work within a team, demonstrate initiative, confidence and excellent time management and organisational skills
- Able to develop, establish and maintain positive relationships with others, both internal and external to the organisation.

- Ability to give clear advice, instruction and training to clients, carers and volunteers
