Job responsibilities
Primary Care Nursing Leadership
Provide senior nursing leadership and expert
advice to GP practices and Federation services to support safe, effective and
consistent nursing practice.
Support development of sustainable nursing
models across practices, including skill mix review and role development.
Lead on standardisation of nursing pathways and
clinical protocols across member practices where appropriate.
Act as a professional role model and escalation
point for complex clinical or professional nursing issues within B&HF.
Represent
the Federation at local primary care nursing, PCN and ICB forums.
Lead
and coordinate the nursing contribution to B&HF delivered services that
support member practices in achieving contractual and quality requirements,
including but not limited to Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Local
Commissioned Services (LCSs) and other enhanced service specifications.
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
To undertake the Infection Prevention Lead role with the aim
of helping create and maintain an environment which promotes and improves the
safety of patients, service users, staff and visitors in relation to infection
prevention and control (IPC). To translate IPC policy into practice and support
and advise team/service area colleagues on IPC matters.
Serve as the Federations IPC Lead, ensuring
robust IPC measures are in place across all services.
Lead IPC audits, training, and incident
response, liaising with local IPC teams, and General Practice teams.
To act as a resource and a point of contact for
colleagues who require support and guidance with IPC issues.
Keep up to date with national IPC guidance and
ensure compliance across the Federation.
To cascade/disseminate IPC information or
updates received to colleagues within their teams.
Able to challenge poor practice and empower
others to do the same to ensure the highest standards of care are provided
across BHF services.
To maintain an awareness of the organisations
policy and procedures in relation to IPC.
To encourage colleagues to recognise and be
aware of the risks within their area and communicate these as appropriate to service
leads.
Collaborate with the rest of the Senior
Leadership Team to produce the annual IPC statement and implement improvement
initiatives.
Occupational Health
Oversee the
development, implementation, and review of the Federations occupational health
policies and procedures, ensuring a proactive and supportive approach to staff
wellbeing.
Support services
in risk assessment, staff health surveillance, and the implementation of health
and wellbeing initiatives.
Provide expert
advice and support on work-related health issues, including sickness absence,
fitness for work, and health risk assessments.
Advise on or
implement phased return-to-work plans for staff following illness, injury, or
extended absence, in collaboration with line managers and external occupational
health services as appropriate.
Perform and
interpret blood tests to determine immunity status or need for occupational
vaccinations (e.g. Hepatitis B, MMR, varicella, TB).
Arrange for
administration of required vaccinations, coordinating with external
occupational health providers or in-house services as appropriate.
Coordinate
immunisation programmes and staff health promotion activities, including
seasonal vaccination campaigns.
Ensure
appropriate record-keeping and reporting in accordance with confidentiality and
data protection policies.
Leadership and Professional Oversight
Accountable for professional nursing standards
across all B&HF delivered services
Lead on workforce planning discussion relating
to nursing services (including long term condition. management, health
assessments, cytology and immunisations).
Lead clinical supervision frameworks and
professional development structures for nursing staff.
Build relationships with nursing teams across
all services to support clinical consistency and safe practice.
In collaboration with the rest of the Senior
Leadership Team to develop and implement evidence-based protocols and
guidelines that enhance patient care and safety.
Provide expert advice on scope of practice,
delegation, and competency assessments.
As required to contribute towards the
recruitment, induction, performance monitoring, appraisals, and 1:1s for the
nursing team.
Vaccination service
Lead strategic planning and mobilisation of B&HFs
seasonal and targeted vaccination programmes.
Monitor vaccination uptake and lead improvement
initiatives to reduce inequalities in access and coverage.
Provide clinical leadership for safe delivery of
vaccination services across multiple settings.
Support workforce competency frameworks and
assurance processes for vaccinators.
Working with the Head of Clinical Services to support
clinical effectiveness, operational delivery, and staff wellbeing with this
service.
Lead on the interpretation and dissemination of national vaccination
guidance, including mandatory training requirements for vaccinators, as
applicable to primary care settings.
Lead the overall coordination of the day-to-day delivery of
the vaccinations, ensuring equipment and sufficient stock of clinic supplies
are available.
Liaising with GP practices to arrange vaccination deliveries
or collections
Organising vaccination visits to care homes and domiciliary
settings, ensuring appropriate consent arrangements are in place
Working in collaboration with community partners to arrange
outreach events for harder to reach populations and maximise vaccine uptake,
including performing/ contributing towards risk assessments for such activity
Coordinate the infection control and waste disposal, ensuring
that all activities are adhered to the highest standards
Act as a vaccinator within this service as needed
Training and workforce Development
Work closely with external educational partners/ training
hubs to develop and implement a nursing workforce developmental strategy across
the local primary care landscape.
Facilitate, design, and deliver training for clinical and
non-clinical staff across the Federations geographic footprint on topics such as, but not limited to, Basic Life Support, hand
hygiene, Infection Control, and manual handling.
Lead competency development frameworks for
nursing and vaccination staff.
Support career progression pathways within
primary care nursing, including practice nurses, nursing associates and
advanced practitioners.
Provide mentorship and professional coaching to
emerging nursing leaders.
Identify training needs through audits, appraisals, and
incident reviews.
Support the development of nursing roles in primary care,
including support for emerging roles such as advanced clinical practitioners
and trainee nurses.
Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement
Lead the nursing contribution to clinical
governance, ensuring lessons learned from incidents, audits and patient
feedback are embedded into practice.
Lead nursing input into incident review and quality
improvement initiatives.
Support the team in dealing with clinical
emergencies and ensure compliance with CQC standards.
Attend and contribute to the organisations
Clinical Governance Committee meetings.
Overseeing the annual site assurance visits at
GP practices and other premises across the city, ensuring the site assurance
audits and subsequent reports are prepared and disseminated.
Ensure accurate and contemporaneous records are
maintained in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
Provide assurance regarding compliance with CQC
standards and professional regulation.
