Job summary

The postholder will work closely with the Medical Director, Director of Performance and Delivery, Head of Operations and Head of Technology to lead safe, efficient, and responsive urgent care for our patients. The Manager will also work collaboratively with the Head of Performance and Quality on quality strategy and assurance framework. The role will also link with the Head of Business Development to provide input into tenders, and the development and provision of new and innovative services. With a proven track record in leading services and delivering improvements, the postholder will utilise their clinical and operational expertise to drive performance, quality, and patient experience. The individual will be able to balance multiple workstreams and competing priorities, with a focus on continuous improvement. The postholder will be adept at interpreting data to inform service improvement and defining clear systems and processes to enable consistent delivery. The Manager will line manage staff within the clinical department, including oversight for Medicines Management. The role requires strong communication and engagement skills to nurture and maintain relationships across operational and clinical teams within Badger, and partner teams and Integrated Care System stakeholders. 24-hour support is provided by the department and active participation in the on-call manager rota will be a requirement of the post.

Main duties of the job

This role is a vital position in Badgers clinical services. Birmingham and District GP Emergency Room (Badger) Ltd is a not-for-profit social enterprise healthcare co-operative which includes, as part of its group of companies, Badger Medical Ltd, Badger Healthcare Ltd and Sett Support Partnership plc. It has an annual turnover of £13 million; consisting of Board Leadership; Clinical; Finance; Workforce & HR; Quality & Performance; Operations; IT and Business Development departments. Badger was established in 1996 by local doctors who joined together to initially provide an improved out-of-hours service for their patients. Today Badger has opted-in GP members in 60+ practices and provides 24/7 message handling, urgent primary care and GP out of hours service to a patient base of 1.6 million. We run the Urgent Treatment Services at Solihull and Erdington Stockland Green, with face to face and 24/7 remote clinical assessment services operating from Bourne Road in Aston. Our head offices are at Glover Street, near the city centre. Badger was recognised with an Outstanding rating following our Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in March 2024.

Line manage Clinical Receptionists, Health Care Support Workers and Medicines Management staff, including workforce planning, recruitment, induction, training and retention Manage student nurse placements Clinical work Clinical work within Badgers services is not included within the job plan, but the option to work clinical shifts can be explored at interview. To work clinically, the postholder would need to be a prescribing registered healthcare professional, operating at Advanced Practice level with experience in urgent care/ urgent primary care.
