As part of our ongoing commitment to improving outcomes from cardiac arrest, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance has developed a comprehensive strategy that embraces every element of the Chain of Survival in resuscitation.

We are now delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Paramedic,Nurse, Ambulance Technician or equivalent with significant hands-on experience in cardiopulmonary resuscitation to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Clinical Community Lead to support the delivery of our CPR Smart Programme for Schools, launched in Autumn 2024.

Main duties of the job

The CPR Smart Programme aims to empower and educate School CPR Champions teachers and sixth form studentsso they can confidently deliver CPR training to pupils in both secondary and primary schools across Essex and Hertfordshire. By providing dedicated training and clinical guidance, our team helps remove barriers to CPR education and builds confidence among those teaching these vital life-saving skills

About us

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a charity. The free lifesaving service is provided 24 7 by helicopters and by rapid response vehicles. Each critical care team consists of a pilot and co-pilot, a pre-hospital care doctor and a critical care paramedic. They can be rushed to the scene with life-saving support equipment to deliver advanced clinical care, usually only in the hospital emergency department. Once stabilised, the patient will be conveyed to the most appropriate hospital by air or land. Without access to National Lottery funding and with only limited support from Government, we rely upon the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex and Hertfordshire to remain operational and keep saving liveswe cant fly without you!

Job responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, hands-on CPR education sessions including the use of public access defibrillators to potential CPR Smart Championsin schools and community settings.

  • Collaborate closely with the Clinical Community Leadto shape and develop the CPR Smart Programme, ensuring it continues to evolve based on evidence, feedback, and best practice.

  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to School CPR Champions, helping them gain confidence and maintain high standards in CPR delivery.

  • Maintain accurate digital records to track engagement, training progress, and the overall impact of the CPR Smart project.

  • Enhance the programmes visibility and reach by contributing to the development and growth of CPR Smarts social media presence. Create and share engaging digital content including photos, short videos, and testimonials from students, schools, and the wider community to promote CPR awareness and celebrate success stories.

  • Support broader Clinical Community initiatives, including CPR training for non-clinical EHAAT team members and other community groups.

  • Participate in public engagement events, such as World Restart a Heart Day and local community activities that promote CPR education and awareness.

  • Confidence in addressing common questions and misconceptions related to CPR delivery
  • Ability to navigate ethical considerations surrounding CPR when raised by members of the public or healthcare professionals
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience using or managing social media platforms for professional or educational outreach
  • Experience working on or contributing to community engagement or public health programmes
  • Understanding of published research and literature on public access CPR and defibrillation programmes
