Main duties of the job

This list of duties and responsibilities, which follows, represents the broad range oftasks which may be required to be undertaken either routinely or periodically. Thislist is not exhaustive, and the role may include additional duties which are not listedhere.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Appointment organisation

1. Make sure clinics are booked onto the computer

2. Ensure clinics are filled to maximise capacity and keep waiting times as lowas possible

3. Review and accept or decline eReferral patients based on suitability for theGPwSI Eye Clinic and make appropriate appointments

4. Add the patient appointment to the eReferral system

5. Add new and follow-up appointments on EMIS appointment system

6. Keep diary of patients identified by the GP as needing a follow-up so thatthis can be booked at the right time

7. Send letters/ telephone /email/text to patients to arrange and confirm theirappointment

Consultations

8. Register patients who have not previously been seen in the clinic on EMIS

9. Prepare notes in readiness for clinics, either paper or computer

10. Instill eye drops as required

11. Perform visual acuities, visual fields and optical coherence tomography(OCT) examinations

12. Add consultation information to EMIS

13. Send copies of visual fields to GPs

General

14. Deal with queries from patients and other clinicians
