Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Chair to Cumbria Health, playing a key role in helping us to shape and deliver our organisational strategy (Road Map).
The right candidate for this role will not only have the experience, skills and aptitudes to add real value to our Board of Directors, they will also hold personal values closely aligned to those of the organisation. They will also be rooted in the communities we serve, with demonstrable understanding of and connection to the unique challenges our Cumbrian population, rurality and health economy presents.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Chair includes setting the strategy and values of Cumbria Health whilst maintaining regulatory compliance, ensuring high levels of accountability, probity and value for money, whilst delivering high standards of clinical and corporate governance.
One of the key responsibilities of the Chair is strategic leadership in setting the strategic direction and priorities of Cumbria Health in conjunction with the Board, and ensuring they operate effectively and in accordance with the highest standards of governance.
The Chair will also ensure that Cumbria Health is run in a transparent, equitable and fair manner, ensuring enabling Directors to fulfil their responsibilities for overall governance. The Chair will be responsible for chairing Board meetings, ensuring that they are productive, well organised and focused on strategic direction.
The Chair will also oversee the implementation of Board decisions and ensure the organisation's activities align with its strategic goals. The Chair will, as a member of a unitary Board of Directors share responsibility with, and have the same liability as, the Executive and Non-Executive Directors for the risk and performance of Cumbria Health, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and ethical standards.
The Chair will also lead Board development, ensuring the recruitment and induction of new members, whilst facilitating ongoing Board development and training, to enhance the effectiveness of the Board.
