We are currently looking for bank Healthcare Assistants to support two of our health inequalities daytime services. These are:
NHS HEALTH CHECKS
Working with the Digital Projects team providing NHS Health
checks to local communities, initially attached to our GP practices across
Cumbria.
These days are arranged in conjunction with GP practices to
promote health & wellbeing. NHS Health Checks are carried out using near
point testing machines. The Melissa Education bus is
often utilised
ASYLUM SEEKER CLINICS
Weekly clinics at the Home Office Contingency Hotels in
Carlisle & Whitehaven for 2-3 hours (mornings) taking bloods & vital
signs as part of the residents initial health assessment
This role is based across various locations throughout Cumbria dependant on the service - primarily on a Tuesday and Thursday.
Main duties of the job
You will carry out a range of duties in caring for patients including providing
treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. You will also carry
out the necessary supporting administrative duties e.g. record keeping, monitoring
equipment levels etc.

- To assist in providing high quality patient care
- To carry out basic patient observations, blood sugar, ECG recording andurinalysis
- Chronic Disease Management
- Diabetic foot checks
- To carry out venepuncture as requested
- To carry out simple dressings as agreed.
- To contribute to housekeeping and other duties as required, e.g. generaltidiness, replenishment of stock and ensure clinical equipment is clean, in good working order and stored correctly.
- To act as chaperone and support patients during examinations
- To undertake training to acquire the skills appropriate for development in thepost
- To carry out other tasks in line with the HCA level of competency asrequested by the GP and/or CHoC clinicians and management team.
MANAGING PATIENT CARE/CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- To assist in the safe handling and moving of patients, adhering to H&S guidelines and protocols at all times
- To respond to needs of the patients with patience and empathy, promoting privacy and dignity
- To review equipment, identify faults and feedback to the line manager
- To report all accidents, incidents and complaints to the line manager oraccording to policy as appropriate eg Adverse Incidents.
- To report any issues that may put health, safety and security at risk followingthe risk assessment process
- To ensure that a safe environment is created and maintained for all patients,visitors and work colleagues
- To clean and decontaminate consultation room between patients & undertake general housekeeping
COMMUNICATION
- To actively maintain the patient consultation record so that it is complete andaccurate in line with legal requirements.
- Communicates effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Referswhen necessary to general practitioners, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Reception& Admin Team, Paramedics, Accident and Emergency, Secondary Care,District nurses, Community MTD, social workers, mental health team, andSocial Care Teams.
- With reception staff regarding patient information.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
- To undertake mandatory training in line with CHoC policy
- To participate in induction and training
- To take responsibility for personal and professional development
ORGANISATIONAL/ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete appropriate forms and send specimens to the laboratory asrequired
- Undertake any general clerical duties as required
- Adhere to the CHoC policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of any professional bodies
- To maintain a high level of confidentiality and comply with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation Be aware of the nature of information dealt with and work in a manner which ensures confidentiality and security
- Undertake any other activities deemed appropriate and necessary by the organisation
- Participate in audit, research and evaluation of service
