Inpatient Unit Staff Nurse

  • Hours:Full time - 13 x 11.5 hours across a 4 week rota (part-time hours considered)
  • Location: Peace Hospice, Watford
  • Salary:Rennie Grove Peace Band 5: £29,970 - £36,483 per annum (pro rata)

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver high quality Specialist Palliative and End of Life nursing care as part of the In- Patient Unit multidisciplinary team.
  • Leading on and coordinating assessment, planning and evaluation of individualised patient centred care.
  • Ensuring a holistic approach that is sensitive and responsive to the patients ever changing needs.
  • Maintaining a respectful non-judgemental and caring attitude ensuring the Rennie Grove Peace Hospice vision and philosophy of care is integral to the care delivered and role undertaken.
  • The coordination and smooth running of a shift ensuring it is well organised and staff and patients are safe.
  • Acting as a Rennie Grove Peace ambassador within the community.

About us

At Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, our unique care provides a lifeline of compassion and support to patients, carers, and families facing progressive life-limiting illness. We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.)

Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.

We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individuals needs, whether thats at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities.

As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years. Our staff team of 340+ includes a wide range of patient-facing disciplines plus operational support based in Watford, Tring, St Albans, Chalfont St Giles and Berkhamsted. The Charity is now one of the larger UK hospice charities, reaching a GP population of 797,037 of whom 75% live in Hertfordshire and 25% in Buckinghamshire.

Job responsibilities

  • What youll do in the role
  • Attend relevant meetings as appropriate.
  • Managed through others: Responsible for all nursing staff and volunteers when nominated the nurse in charge of unit or shift. Supervision of Staff Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Volunteers on shift.
  • To undertake a holistic needs assessment that explores individual patients and their carers/families physical, emotional, spiritual, practical, welfare right and if appropriate the families pre and post bereavement needs, using a variety of tools to support the process.
  • To be able to develop, update and monitor the individualised care plans ensuring they are patient centred and support the identified patient needs.
  • To be able to deliver both generalist basic and complex specialist nursing care interventions that is responsive to the individual patients requirements.
  • To be able to communicate highly sensitive and often contentious information, ensuring patients and their families/carers are adequately supported.
  • To be able to demonstrate through documentation, and verbal communication the care undertaken and patient outcomes.
  • To participate in keeping accurate and legible records in accordance with existing practice and procedure at the Peace Hospice. To be aware of the legal requirements associated with keeping such records.
  • To be an active member of the MDT contributing to the presentation, decision making of the patients care planning.
  • To be an exemplary role model to all peer colleagues, new staff, volunteers and visitors to the service.
  • To provide a verbal or written report and disseminate to colleagues and other team members any learning, knowledge gained from attending study/ training days.
  • To attend and contribute to the regular clinical learning/education programme.
  • Understand and comply with all Rennie Grove Peace policies and procedures.
  • Maintain required organisational standards for all mandatory training.

  • Keep up to date with current legislation and any further professional training, relevant to role.
