Bank Specialist Occupational Therapist

  • Hours: Bank
  • Location: Based at Peace Hospice, Watford, but will be expected to travel to other RGP locations
  • Salary: Depending on experience may be a Rennie Grove Peace Band 5/6 - £17.65 - £21.86 per hour.

Main duties of the job

What you will do

  • Provide evidence-based practice and practice development across the patient pathway within the occupational therapy service, the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and other partnership organisations.
  • Provide specialised assessment and treatment for patients with complex needs and provide specialist advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.
  • Take a role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Provide support and advice to patients, their carers and professionals.
  • Consider and complete appropriate referrals to the MDT, ensuring seamless service for patients.
  • Acting as a Rennie Grove Peace ambassador within the community.
  • Provide specialist advice and education on all aspects of occupational therapy and rehabilitation for patients, carers and health care professional.

At Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, our unique care provides a lifeline of compassion and support to patients, carers, and families facing progressive life-limiting illness. We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.) Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.

  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care and clinical risk assessment.
  • Undertake the specialised comprehensive holistic assessment of patients, including those with the most complex presentation and for whom a variety of factors will often provide a barrier to communication, using advanced investigative and analytical skills, to formulate a treatment plan.
  • Formulate and deliver individualised management and treatment plans using advanced and clinical reasoning skills and utilising a wide range of specialised treatment skills and options, both within inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Formulate soundly reasoned prognosis and recommend the best course of intervention, developing negotiated goals leading to comprehensive discharge plans within an MDT.
  • Implement validated, person-centred outcome measure in palliative and rehabilitative care settings in alignment with NICE guidance, to support continuous service improve and inform clinical decision making, and enhance patient reported outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy, HCPC registered
  • Advanced communication skills or willingness to work towards.
  • Experience in a wide range of core clinical areas including: Respiratory/Neurology/Medical/ Community.
  • Evidence of CPD and reflective practice.
  • Critical appraisal skills
  • To ensure that patient documentation is completed accurately using System One and paper records in accordance with professional standards, hospice policy and legal requirements.
  • Commitment to the development and pursuit of palliative care knowledge.
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to build good working relationships.
  • Good administrative and record keeping skills and able to work with good attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Sensitivity and understanding to the needs of the volunteers and customers, many of whom may have experienced Rennie Grove Peace services or be bereaved themselves.
  • Be a perfect match with our values.
