Job summary

We are a rural friendly GMS Practice serving around 5400 patients.

Our team includes 3 GP Partners and 2 Practice Nurses and a HCA. We are looking for a professional, conscientious, and highly effective Practice Nurse to join us for 16 hours per week.

SystmOne experience desirable.

Salary dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the clinical nursing care of the practice population. You will receive referrals from the general practitioner and will be called upon to advise, support and treat patients who attend the surgery. You will undertake the delivery of nursing care in general practice as a self directing practitioner, working with the GPs to meet patient needs as appropriate.

  • The Partners - Clinical Duties
  • The Practice Manager - Non-Clinical Duties

Duties & Responsibilities:

You will carry out standard Treatment Room procedures:

  • Removal of sutures/clips
  • Dressings
  • Venepuncture
  • Standard medical measurements
  • Ear syringing
  • Immunisation and other injections and travel advice
  • Urine testing
  • New registration health checks

You will carry out specialised procedures:

  • Sterilisation and infection control
  • Setting up and assisting with minor operations
  • ECGs and ABPMs
  • Audiometry
  • Long Term Conditions Reviews
  • Cervical cytology screening
  • Cryotherapy
  • Primary Prevention Reviews including Healthy Heart (and calculating CVD risk using JBS Q-risk)
  • Involvement in Public Health: - Alcohol Awareness - Smoking Cessation - Weight Management - Cancer Awareness
  • Learning Disabilities Reviews

Other Duties

  • You may be required to act as a chaperone
  • You must maintain the highest standard of hygiene and the prevention of cross infection to patients and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team.

Administration

  • You will record all relevant patient information on computer, including monitoring and recording accurate data in relation to QOF targets.
  • You will complete all nurse related paper work, and ensure that all treatment room records are maintained efficiently.
  • You will assist in organising preventative measures: eg Flu vaccination, health promotion activities
  • You will liaise with colleagues to order and maintain stocks of drugs and equipment necessary for the day to day running of the treatment rooms.
  • You will attend staff meetings, clinical meetings and staff training as appropriate, and be responsible for your own continued personal development.
  • Professional Registration is your own responsibility and you will be expected to follow the U.K.C.C. Code of Professional Conduct.
