Job summary
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Salaried GP to work a total of 8 sessions per week, Monday and Friday, to commence October/November 2024.
The ideal candidate will provide a high standard of care, have a flexible approach, and work well with all members of the team.

Main duties of the job
GP duties include examining patients, diagnosing illnesses, and prescribing appropriate treatment. You should also be able to address patients' health-related queries.
You should be able to communicate the gravity of diagnoses while reassuring patients who are in distress and will suggest appropriate referrals if necessary.
General Practitioner Responsibilities:
- Reviewing and updating patients' medical records.
- Diagnosing common ailments such as colds, flu, and diabetes.
- Prescribing medications and lifestyle alterations.
- Requesting relevant tests on ICE and organising samples to be sent to labs for further testing.
- Referring patients to specialists for further testing and treatment, if needed.
- Anticipating and responding to patients' wellness-related questions and concerns.
You will also be expected to:
- Provide care to patients, with a mix of face-to-face and telephone appointments.
- Provide 8 sessions per week.
- Provide your share of On Call / Duty Day.
- Provide home visits where required.
- Attend practice meetings and clinical huddles.
- Provide proactive preventative care and good case management of complex patients.

Job responsibilities
As a Salaried GP the post holder will be a key clinician within the team at Hartlepool Health PCN. A job plan will be agreed with you the post holder who will provide general medical services and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting. As a salaried GP we would also expect the post holder to actively support and promote the success and prosperity of the practice and wider PCN organisation ensuring quality, standards and income streams are maximised where ever possible.
The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary Practice team to provide general medical services for the needs of the practice population and to help ensure the Practice provides the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The post holder will manage a busy caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.
The post holder is expected to contribute to the operational and strategic management of the practices within Hartlepool Health PCN and there are opportunities for personal and professional development across a wide range of areas within primary care.
We would expect the Salaried GP within the practice to meet with the Practice Team Lead/Manager at least once per month to discuss, plan and organise general business matters of the practice/PCN. The practices Key Performance Indicator Report should be discussed, reviewed and action plans agreed where necessary.
The Salaried GP and Practice Team Lead/Manager will be expected to maintain the best interests of the practice/wider PCN organisation when making decisions about operational practice.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical:
The post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associates with a GP working within Primary Care, including, but not limited to:
- In accordance with the Practice consulting schedule, as agreed, the post holder will make themself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations (e.g. insurance companies) on behalf of the Practice.
- Making professional autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers.
- Recording clear and contemporaneous IT based consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Collecting data for audit purposes.
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
- Making referrals to other healthcare providers (NHS and private) in line with national and local guidelines and pathways.
- Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.
- Covering on call as part of a fair rota which meets the needs of the practice.
