Main duties of the job

We are looking for nurses who are passionate about palliative care and have transferable nursing skills and experience. You will be able to build a natural and trusted rapport with patients and families, and provide compassionate care and support to those who need it most.

Our ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and a real commitment to patient-centred interdisciplinary team working. You will be able to openly and honestly support people with sensitive topics including loss, grief and dying.

While palliative care experience is desirable, it is not essential to join our Hospice team as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse Associate. We welcome newly graduated nurses, nurses interested in part-time (day or night shift) or bank work, and nurses with experience in other fields interested in a career change.

Physical Effort

  • Frequent moderate physical effort over short periods. Lift and push light objects, bend over patients, kneel, turn, and move patients. On feet for majority of shift (6 or 12 hours) working day and night shifts.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound nursing knowledge and skills, including hands on care, assessment, holistic advice and support
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills with colleagues, patients and others both in person and via telephone/ video call
  • Ability to work effectively as an autonomous nurse and within interdisciplinary team
  • Keyboard skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to make informed decisions and empowering others to do same

Desirable

  • Advanced Communication skills (Connected or Sage and Thyme)
  • Knowledge of legislation regulating Care Homes/Hospices

Qualifications

  • RGN/RMN Diploma/Degree in Adult Nursing
  • Accredited module in palliative or end of life care(or willingness to work towards)

  • Accredited Mentorship Course

  • Previous experience of working in a clinical environment including wards, community & care homes
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults

Desirable

  • Previous Hospice/ palliative care/oncology experience
