We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Hospice Care at Home Overnight Service in Wakefield and surrounding areas.

Salary: Marie Curie Pay Scale, aligned with AFC Band 2 £24,465 per annum + enhancements

Hours/Contract: Part Time 36 hours per week - various 9 hour night shifts (10 pm - 7 am) available.

Contract Type: Permanent

As a Healthcare Assistant with the Marie Curie Hospice Care at Home Overnight Service in the Wakefield, Ossett, Morley, Rothwell, Horbury and Crofton and surrounding areas, you'll be supporting patients and families in their time of greatest need. We provide free specialist palliative care and support to patients with life limiting illness whilst offering vital emotional support for their families.

With experience of End of Life care, you're ready and able to make a real difference. Ours is a one-to-one approach to care, so you're sure to enjoy plenty of meaningful contact with patients and their families - usually in their own homes. Working without close supervision, you'll have the opportunity to use your own initiative in line with the patient's established care plan. You'll be required to carry out a range of care duties including helping patients meet their hygiene needs, monitoring symptoms, assisting with medications and keeping detailed records and emotional support to the patient and their families.

What were looking for:

• S/NVQ Level 2/3 qualification or an equivalent certificate/diploma is required
• Emotional strength and the ability to work on your own are crucial, though we will of course provide excellent on-going training and support
• Recent experience of providing care and caring for people with life limiting illness or palliative care needs in a health/social care setting
• Be a UK licensed driver with access to a car and business insurance is essential

Qualifications

Essential

• National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR an equivalent alternative Level 2 Qualification i.e. NCFE level 2 Certificate in Healthcare Support Services, BTEC level 2 Health and
• Social Care.
• Functional skills at level 2 in numeracy and literacy or equivalent

Desirable

• National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Health and Social
• Care OR an acceptable, alternative Level 3 Qualification
• Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

Experience

Essential

• 6 Months care delivery experience (current) in a Health or Social Care Environment.

Desirable

• Recent professional experience of providing care and caring for dying patients.
