Job summary

We are seeking 2 x full-time Senior Nurses to join our Overnight service in Devon, on a permanent basis. If you would be interested in making a difference to the End of Life Care provided across the South-West, then we want to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Nurse for our overnight service, you will oversee and coordinate the provision of overnight care in the community, ensuring high standards of care and addressing safeguarding incidents. This predominantly managerial role involves managing a team of Healthcare Assistants, ensuring their development through supervision and quality review of clinical services. You will also participate in clinical governance activities, including audits and quality improvement initiatives, while maintaining effective communication with patients, families, carers, and the wider community. Additionally, you will be involved in the development and implementation of new initiatives and projects, contributing to a forward-thinking charity dedicated to innovative approaches to palliative care.

We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement.

Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness theyre likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We have two full-time vacancies for Senior Nurses to join our team in Devon. This is a homeworking role, with expectations to travel as the service requires, either within the community or to our offices in Tiverton, and will require you to have provisions in place to work effectively.

As a Senior Nurse for our overnight service, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the overnight care provided in the community. Your primary responsibilities will include managing care standards and investigating safeguarding incidents, alongside line managing a team of Healthcare Assistants (HCAs).

This position is predominantly managerial rather than clinical, offering significant scope for professional development. We are looking for someone who is passionate about innovative approaches to palliative care and eager to contribute to new and exciting projects within a forward-thinking charity.

Hours:37.5 hours per week (Between the hours of 08:00-18:00)

Contract:Full-time Permanent

Location:Hybrid (Home working and Tiverton Office)

Salary:£37,338 - £44,962 per annum (pro rata), in line with NHS Agenda for Change (AFC). Plus, full range of Marie Curie benefits, including enhancements for out of hours working.

What we are looking for:

  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • Relevant Nursing Degree
  • Previous experience in a managerial or leadership role
  • Experience caring for patients with palliative care needs (hospice/hospital/community)
  • Understands benefits of working with a patient-centred philosophy of multidisciplinary team working.
  • Up to date knowledge of current palliative care issues
  • Ability to manage time, self and own workload and prioritise affectively
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Understanding and support of the benefits of clinical supervision and reflective practice
  • Understands the importance of developing and following policies and protocols.
