Job summary

We are seeking a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant for our STARS (Supportive and End of Life Care Service) in Liverpool. It is a fixed-term contract for 12-months. If you are interested, please apply today!

Main duties of the job

STARS is a service commissioned by Liverpool CCG and delivered in partnership with Marie Curie, Crossroads Together, and Home Carers Liverpool Limited (HCL). The service aims to provide comprehensive end-of-life care to patients in their final weeks, ensuring they receive the necessary support to die at home if that is their wish.As a healthcare assistant working for Marie Curie, you willprovides holistic, patient-centered care to individuals nearing the end of their lives. You will assist with daily living activities, support clinical procedures under supervision, and ensure accurate documentation of care provided. Additionally, you will be expected to offer emotional support to patients and their families, helping to maintain dignity and comfort during this critical time.

We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they're likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join our STARS (Supportive and End of Life Care Service) in Liverpool, North-West.

Hours:Full-time 37.5 hours per week (days)

Contract:12-months fixed-term

Base:Liverpool Hospice and the community

In this role, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, care planning, review and evaluation of holistic care management plans individual to each patient.

As this is a community-based role, you will be responsible for planning your own work, responding to changes in patient conditions, prioritising care needs (including hygiene, nutrition and hydration, comfort, monitoring vitals, and more) as detailed in the personalised care plan and ensuring you escalate appropriately to senior staff within the multidisciplinary team in a timely manner.

What were looking for:

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR an equivalent alternative Level 2 Qualification.
  • Minimum of 6 months care delivery experience in a Health or Social Care Environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to deliver person centred care and the components of open and sensitive communication
  • Proficient IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
  • Flexibility to work across different projects and services across the North-West, if required
