Job description

Job responsibilities

Marie Curie is the UKs leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they're likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join our community-based team in Bolton, North-West.

Hours: Bank (minimum of 37.5 hours per month) for our night shift team.

Base: within 25 miles of your home address. Travelling to the Liverpool Hospice may be required from time-to-time.

In this role, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, care planning, review and evaluation of holistic care management plans individual to each patient.

As this is a community-based role, you will be responsible for planning your own work, responding to changes in patient conditions, prioritising care needs (including hygiene, nutrition and hydration, comfort, monitoring vitals, and more) as detailed in the personalised care plan and ensuring you escalate appropriately to senior staff within the multidisciplinary team in a timely manner.

What were looking for:

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR an equivalent alternative Level 2 Qualification.
  • Minimum of 6 months care delivery experience in a Health or Social Care Environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to deliver person centred care and the components of open and sensitive communication
  • Willingness to undertake work during the night, as advertised
  • Proficient IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
  • Flexibility to work across different projects and services across the North-West, if required

What's in it for you:

  • Annual leave allowance 27 days plus 8 public holidays (pro rata)
  • Hybrid working
  • Competitive Policy for parental/sick Leave
  • Continuous Professional development
  • Industry leading training programmes
  • Season ticket loan for travelling to and from work
  • Defined contribution schemes for Pension
  • Marie Curie Group Personal Pension Scheme
  • Loan schemes for bikes; computers and satellite navigation systems
  • Introduce a friend scheme
  • Help with childcare cost (T & Cs apply)
  • Entitled to Marie Curie Blue Light Card
  • Entitled to Benefit-Hub Discount Scheme
