Job description

Job responsibilities

Marie Curie is the UKs leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement.

Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they're likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:

  • Growing and transforming our direct care and support
  • Delivering more practical information and support
  • Leading in shaping the end-of-life experience

As a Senior Nurse at Marie Curie, you'll play a key part in making a difference to those in need. In this role you'll be part of a supportive team that truly cares about you and your development.

Using a patient-centered approach and evidenced based practice, assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care and co-ordinate care from admission to discharge.

Previous experience in End-of -Life or palliative care, as well as previous experience in managing a team is required.

As a Senior Nurse, you'll have the freedom to work autonomously, you'll be responsible for managing a caseload of patients, and managing a team of health care assistants and registered nurses.

You will also contribute and manage project work across the region, to help address ways to grow the service and respond to the needs of those we support Relationship building in this role is also key, with the ability to establish and engage various stakeholders throughout the business as well as lead a team through positive change.

What we are looking for:

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to proactively plan and schedule your own workload, to meet patient care requirements
  • Evidence of research-based practice
  • Up to date knowledge of current palliative care issues
  • Understanding and support of the benefits of clinical supervision and reflective practice
  • Experience in observation and assessment of clinical practice, to determine standards of care
  • Understanding of steps involved in introducing change
  • An understanding of specific needs of patients approaching end of life and in the terminal phase

What's in it for you:

  • Annual leave allowance - 27days plus 10 public holidays (pro rata)
  • Annual leave aligned to NHS (subject to eligibility, which must be most recent continuous service immediately prior to joining MC with no breaks of service)
  • Marie Curie Contributory Pension Scheme - Continuous Professional development (Marie Curie supports and encourages personal and professional development)
  • Industry leading training programmes
  • Flexible Working
  • Life Assurance
  • Free DBS/PVG/Access NI
  • Free Uniform
  • Generous enhancements. - 30% x your basic salary per hour for Saturday or weekday nights (8pm 6am) - 60% x your basic salary for Sundays and Bank Holidays
