Job summary

At Mountbatten we are looking for an individual who will provide advanced Physiotherapy input and promote a philosophy of empowerment and enablement via collaborative working and motivating others.

Main duties of the job

The successful Physiotherapist candidate will provide a specialist and skilled Physiotherapy service to patients under the care of Mountbatten Hospice across the Inpatient Unit and Outpatients department, focusing on what matters to the individual and using innovation and experience to achieve a person-centred approach.

This role will be key in promoting a philosophy of empowerment and enablement across Hospice services, supporting and encouraging a positive attitude towards risk taking, and recognising the cultural and spiritual needs of the individual and family. The Senior Physiotherapist will play a leading role in identifying opportunities for service development to further Mountbatten's reach and increase our impact on those who could benefit from our services and support, in particular the optimisation of health and wellbeing via education, non-pharmacological symptom management and patient activation.

To be successful for this role you will need to be a skilled Physiotherapist, with experience of working in a variety of settings. You will have excellent clinical, administration, co-ordination and leadership skills.

As an experienced Physiotherapist, you will exercise complex levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. You will be able to demonstrate advanced practice skills to identify, assess, diagnose, treat, and manage people affected by life limiting disease. Flexibility and creative thinking are key to the role.

Overview of Role:

Provide an expert and innovative Physiotherapy service to palliative care patients focusing within the Inpatient Unit, out-patient department, and end of life community patients (where appropriate), working within the Rehabilitation team at Mountbatten Hampshire. Participate in the continuing development of the physiotherapy service, rehabilitation team and wider services as per the Mountbatten strategic plan. Hold service-wide responsibilities according to skills and training, such as fire warden and moving and handling trainer. Promote and be an advocate for palliative rehabilitation and enablement across the services.

Key Tasks:

To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with complex and diverse palliative care needs. To provide, develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes, and to undertake these tasks as an autonomous practitioner.

To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a mixed caseload between inpatients and community, working without direct supervision.

To facilitate and promote a palliative rehabilitation and enablement approach within the Hospice philosophy throughout the organisation and to other health and social care providers.

Alongside colleagues, coordinate and develop the day to day operation of the Physiotherapy Team.

Act as a specialist physiotherapy palliative care resource; providing consultative advice, education, and support to members of the multidisciplinary and Primary Health and Social Care teams.

Provide moving and handling training to staff and volunteers, working with other Moving and handling trainers.

Continually develop and share own knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

o Management of staff and volunteers

o Leadership

o Clinical specialisms within palliative care
