Job summary
You will lead, support and develop a team of passionate and committed
Caseworkers based in Major Trauma Centres across the north of England, driven to
make a difference to the recovery of those impacted by catastrophic injury. You will
be responsible for the delivery of Day Ones remote National Offer, drive casework
performance and quality, and be the organisations Safeguarding Lead. Our Day
One Caseworkers work alongside NHS Clinicians, embedded as part of the team
within Major Trauma Centres, to provide practical, emotional and financial support to
adults and children as well as their families and loved ones. Our National Offer is a
UK wide, remote, signposting and support service delivered through our dedicated
email, phone line and via our online referral form.
The post-holder will be home based but with a requirement to travel to our
service delivery sites within Hospital Trusts across the north of England, and to
meetings.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is:
- To provide day to day oversight and leadership of Day Ones remote (national) and bedside
(regional) Casework delivery offers.
- To lead, support and develop a team of passionate and committed Caseworkers based in
Major Trauma Centres (MTCs) across the north of England, providing cover when needed.
- To develop and deliver the Day One casework bedside model to patients, or those closest
to them, impacted by serious or multiple injuries which could result in life changing
consequences, such as disability or death.
- To oversee Day Ones remote National Offer, providing direct support to patients, and
those closest to them, to address any issues or concerns caused by the impact of major
trauma after discharge, including talking about and facilitating early access to legal
support to aid rehabilitation.
- To be the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the organisation.
- To work as part of Day One Trauma Support Services management team with
responsibility for performance and quality of Casework delivery.

The post holders primary duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Motivational leadership and day to day management of MTC bedside Caseworker
team to meet KPIs and objectives and deliver high quality outcomes for patients, and
those closest to them, affected by catastrophic injury.
- Oversight and delivery of Day Ones remote National Offer, including the dedicated
email, phone line and online referral processes, operating a case management
approach: taking referrals and carrying out initial assessments of need, expertly
navigating, signposting and putting services in place following discharge.
- Effective leadership of Casework team including regular reviews, personal
development, training needs and appraisals in line with organisational policies and
best practice.
- Casework cover during periods of absence and support delivery during the
mobilisation and implementation of new services.
- Provide consistency in assessment of all patients, irrespective of injury cause, age,
status, giving access to the earliest possible specialist legal advice which supports
rehabilitation and NHS cost recovery.
- Drive performance and quality of casework: identifying, promoting and sharing good
practice; recommending and implementing improvements.
- Be accountable for collection, collation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative
Casework data and information for the purpose of internal and external reporting,
ensuring the caseworker team understand their responsibilities in relation to this to
protect and manage data held by Day One.
- Present confidently in a professional manner to establish and maintain effective
relationships with funders, partners, and other stakeholders to promote Day One and
address the needs of those affected by catastrophic injury.
- Keep records of activity and intervention with all beneficiaries, maintaining detailed
case records for the purpose of continuity of casework and monitoring and evaluation.
- Build awareness of the role and charitys purpose through strong relationships across
major trauma networks, ensuring eligible people everywhere have access to Day One
support.
- Build a central resource of national support available for those affected by major
trauma.
- Implement procedures and processes to collect patient and family feedback.
- Identify and support the recruitment of new volunteers, where appropriate.
- Support the roll out of our Peer Support service, focussed on promoting awareness
and uptake nationally.
- Be the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation, working closely with the
wider team on performance, quality, safety and effectiveness of all services, ensuring
appropriate safeguarding policies are followed.
- Oversee delegated budgets and ensure expenditure is within agreed limits.
