Job summary

St Teresas Hospice, Darlington is seeking Registered Nurses to join our Bank, working across our Inpatient Unit and Community Hospice teams.

Usual shift pattern for Inpatient Unit: 12.5hr full day and night shifts on a rota.Usual shift pattern for Rapid Response: 7.75 hr shifts on a rota (8.25 hr shifts with a 30 min unpaid break) 07:00-15:15,15:00-23:15, and 23:00-07:15.Bank hours, St Teresas Hospice Band 5, £16.57 per hour, plus enhanced rates for unsociable hours.Employer: St Teresas Hospice (independent registered charity)Important application info:

Main duties of the job

We are a forward thinking, inclusive registered Charity with Inpatient, Outpatient and Community services, providing care and support to palliative patients and their families in their own homes and at St Teresas Hospice.

In this post, you will work as a member of the nursing and multi-disciplinary team delivering care and giving support to patients with palliative care needs and their families, within patients own homes and in the Hospice. Working in close collaboration with the District Nurses, GPs, Macmillan nurses, the Foundation Trust and other hospice services ensuring patient choice at the end of life.

Essential qualifications and skills include:

Current NMC registration as a registered adult/general nurse

Post registration experience working at NHS Agenda for Change Band 5 (or equivalent) or above in a nursing role

An understanding of the Hospice setting and ethos, and a strong interest in palliative care

Good clinical skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills

A basic level of IT literacy, with the ability to learn new computer skills

Willingness to work across all Hospice services, as required

Desirable

  • Teaching or mentorship qualification

  • Palliative care experience in any professional setting

  • Clinical skills in IV cannulation and administration of medicines
  • Willingness to undertake work during the day, evening or at night and work across all hospices services if required
  • Able to travel for work on a day to day basis using own transport, including carrying a passenger and small equipment (appropriate motor insurance to be arranged by worker at their expense)
