Main duties of the job

About us

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough. We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease.

The expert team on our inpatient unit combine specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms, with emotional, practical and spiritual support. Our wellbeing and community support team are here to listen too

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first. This role is based within our friendly and supportive Community Team and involves visiting people in their own homes to assess, plan care and provide support to people when they need it most.

Our Hospice at Home service is available seven days a week and provides care to patients with a life limiting illness who wish to be cared for at home at the end of their life

  • Ability to travel independently
  • Understanding of equality and individualised care planning

Desirable

  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience in case management or community coordination
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or interest in developing

Experience

Essential

  • Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in Palliative and End of Life Care. This experience may come from a hospice or alternatively, for example, from a high dependency unit, oncology or community service. They will be comfortable with leading junior staff and be able to offer support and advice when needed.
  • NMC Registered Nurse with post-registration UK experience in the clinical field
  • UK Driving License and access to a vehicle essential
  • Completion of NMC recognised accredited mentor training or willing to undertake
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Proven ability to build, lead and influence an effective team in a clinical setting
  • Knowledge of current legislation within the independent care sector
  • Knowledge of best clinical practice for client group
  • Demonstrable experience of practising in a self-directed and highly motivated way
  • Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided.
  • There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
