Pennine GP Alliance are delivering a Community Diagnostic Spirometry Service across Calderdale, supporting our member practices.
We are currently looking for someone who already holds all the necessary Spiro Certifications and can hit the ground running!
Main duties of the job
How does the service work?
Practices complete referrals to refer patients to this community-based spirometry service for diagnostic purposes.
The spirometry tests are carried out by a HCA across several community locations across Calderdale during daytimes and weekends.
The spirometry test is interpreted by a spirometry specialist nurse informing a clinical assessment of airflow obstruction and physiological investigation of airflow obstruction. The specialist nurse will advise whether the assessment results are normal, could be consistent with possible COPD or possible asthma, or whether the results are inconclusive and what further steps would be recommended.

Job responsibilities
To carry out a range of quality assured respiratory function tests for the patients of Calderdale.
To plan and perform diagnostic assessments in accordance with national guidelines for spirometry.
To provide shadowing and additional training opportunities for colleagues
To obtain brief medical history prior to testing to ensure safe practice.
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical notes.
To communicate effectively with patients and colleagues using a variety of methods
To communicate effectively with patients to ensure they understand the test and to ensure accurate results
To perform a range of routine tasks including patient preparation, equipment preparation, maintenance and the use of automated recording equipment.
To be responsible for ensuring equipment is calibrated.
To carry out necessary duties reasonably requested by your line manager
To report any issues or faults of equipment to the Project Manager.
It is expected that as the organisation develops and the needs of the Spirometry Service develop it may be necessary to vary the tasks and/or responsibilities of the post holder; this will be done in consultation with the post holder, and it is hoped agreement can be reached to any reasonable changes
