We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Health Screening Support Assistant to join our mobile health bus team on a bank basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the community by supporting health promotion and early detection initiatives.

Main duties of the job

As a Health Bus Support Worker, you will:

Perform basic health checks including blood pressure, BMI, and blood glucose testing.Record findings accurately using digital forms.Provide lifestyle advice and distribute health promotion materials.Signpost individuals to appropriate services.Work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead, Redbridge Council, and other stakeholders.Ensure compliance with infection control, safeguarding, and data protection policies.

Job responsibilities

The Health Screening Support Assistant will be responsible for providing basic health screening checks and health promotion advice to members of the public accessing the mobile health bus service. The role will involve recording health metrics, offering lifestyle advice through approved leaflets, and signposting individuals to appropriate services. Clinical support and oversight will be provided weekly by the Clinical Lead.

3. Key ResponsibilitiesHealth Screening:
  • Perform blood pressure checks using automated machines.
  • Measure and record height and weight for BMI calculations.
  • Conduct blood sugar (glucose) testing using point-of-care testing devices.
  • Accurately input all findings into a digital form provided.
Health Promotion and Advice:
  • Distribute relevant health information leaflets to service users.
  • Provide basic lifestyle advice (e.g., smoking cessation, healthy eating, exercise) and signpost to appropriate services where further support is needed.
Data Recording:
  • Ensure all results are accurately recorded electronically.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times according to GDPR and Trust protocols.
Communication:
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with all service users.
  • Raise any clinical concerns immediately with the Clinical Lead.
Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies.
  • Follow safe handling and disposal of clinical waste and equipment.
  • Comply with safeguarding principles when interacting with vulnerable adults.
