Job summary

Whizz Kidz is a national charity that provides a unique service to young wheelchair users, offering a holistic assessment process for the provision of suitable wheelchairs with a focus on posture, independence and function. Whizz Kidz NHS is a section of the charity involved in working within NHS services to ensure the provision of the correct equipment for the children and young people within the budget given by the NHS. Whizz Kidz are working alongside Ross Care (who hold the contract) to achieve the goals of the charity, to ensure the correct provision when appropriate.

The job will be based in Barnet from Sept. The role includes working from a clinical base to travelling within the borough to visit children and young people in the most appropriate location for the client.

Main duties of the job

To provide high-quality, innovative clinical assessments and ensure clear clinical decision-making. To involve patients and their families in all aspects of the assessment process, ensuring all requests are considered, promoting collaboration throughout the whole process.

To work with children and young people and their families who attend the wheelchair service.

To undertake a holistic assessment, considered the needs of the service user and their carers. This will involve planning, implementing and evaluating the outcome of the assessment.

To work autonomously as well as along side the multi disciplinary team to ensure a positive outcome for the service user.

To be able to critically assess and re-evaluate the clinical situation as things change for the service user.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in OT/Physio or equivalent qualification
  • HCPC Registration
  • To be able to work autonomously
  • To be able to drive
  • To be an active member of the MDT

Desirable

  • Experience with seating and prescribing wheelchairs
  • Supervisory experience of colleagues and students
  • Evidence of treating clients with complex disabilities including deteriorating conditions.
