Job summary
Aspire
is a city-wide service offering support to people, including those who are at risk of experiencing voices, visions,
extreme suspiciousness, and other severe mental health difficulties to a degree
that would meet the criteria for psychosis. The ARMS pathway supports people
aged 14-35 for up to two years.
The
Band 4 Trainee ARMS Practitioner
role is a 12 month training programme in which you will be provided with skills
and learning opportunities to develop and demonstrate competency to undertake a
Band 5 ARMS Practitioner
role. You will be provided with a structured learning and development programme of support to develop skills and competencies in working
therapeutically with and coordinating the care of clients who are at risk of
experiencing psychosis. You will be taught and supported to carry out a range
of interventions and duties under the direction of your supervisor and the
wider team. Ultimately you will learn all aspects of the ARMS
Practitioner role, and there will potentially be opportunities to work with
at-risk communities to prevent the escalation of difficulties with people in
their communities.
Main duties of the job
The
trainee programme provides opportunity to:
Be
part of a team providing specialist mental health support for clients aged
between 14 and 35 years old
Provide
support and care with clients and their families/networks to help identify,
develop and improve their mental and related physical wellbeing.
Work
collaboratively with other services to provide joined up care
Become
skilled in assessment to determine peoples suitability for the ARMS pathway
Develop
skills in caseload management
Understand
risk management and subsequent risk management interventions and safety
planning
Be
competent in planning effective care
Provide
mental health interventions and social recovery-orientated activities
Proactively
engage communities in enabling the early identification of people who may be at
risk of experiencing psychosis (extreme states of distress).

team which uses trauma informed approaches
that are supported with weekly access to psychological supervision from the
teams therapists. We are an assertive service and all members of the team work
creatively and assertively to engage clients and their families/networks with
the support available to them
The main aspects of this role are:
1.
To develop a working knowledge of current
principles, evidence-based practice, and service provision within the context of an ARMS service and the
broader Early Intervention in Psychosis field.
2.
To develop skills in triaging and assessments using validated measures (e.g.
CAARMS; Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental State) to identify people
with an at risk mental state, and formulating and care planning their
presenting issues, signposting to alternative services where appropriate.
3.Potentially
assist with working with communities that have historically had adverse
experiences of services (e.g. admissions), due to people experiencing severe
forms of distress. Aim to reduce stigma and discrimination in
communities/society around the experiences that get labelled psychosis and
facilitate a two-wayexchange of information around preferred responses to
severe forms of distress.
4. To support clients to gain employment, education,
volunteering and training opportunities.
5.To develop skills in the assessment and management of
clinical risk, and
facilitate interventions that empower the service user and/or the family/social
network to reduce and manage risk behaviours.
6.To promote client and family/network involvement in
your work and all aspects of the service, developing skills in working
alongside families/social networks as required.
7. To
ensure that client records and other information systems are completed
accurately and within agreed timescales and to the required standard

develop skills in planning and delivering meaningful and recovery-orientated care
that is respectful and promotes self-determination, thereby empowering people
to get their basic needs met (e.g. housing, income) and develop a meaningful
life (e.g. meaningful support networks, occupation/activity, education and
training).

limits of your own capabilities and job role. To seek support when required
