Job summary

The Role

We are looking to recruit Registered Nurses with a passion for working with people who use substances. This position requires a Nurse with appropriate and valid registration with the NMC and experience of working with individuals who use alcohol or substances.

Main duties of the job

Key role responsibilities include:

  • To deliver clinical interventions in community-based hubs.
  • Improve healthcare access for service user, BBV testing/treatment, health care assessments and community ambulatory detox and health checks/clinical observations.
  • To provide and supervise the delivery of high standards of nursing care to those who use our services in accordance with up-to-date evidence based professional practice and Via policies.
  • Deliver general healthcare activity, including Wound Care, ECGs, and other similar activity.
  • Undertake basic life support/anaphylaxis training so you are confident and competent to manage a medical emergency including the administration of emergency drugs.
  • To support people affected by drug and alcohol use to achieve and sustain their recovery, optimising health, and well-being.
  • Being flexible in the hours worked will be expected of the post holder including late evenings.

Good communication skills both written and verbal are essential. Confidence to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To deliver excellent drug and alcohol services to those who use our services and their

significant others, including family members friends and carers, to facilitate positiveoutcomes.

Where indicated, undertake community alcohol detoxification, support Opiatedetoxification and titration in the community and refer for specialist inpatient servicesincluding liaising with hospital and inpatient unit staff.

Support outreach work across the borough, particularly around alcohol misuse.

Lead on Harm Reduction approaches within the service, including helping to reducethe spread of BBVs via testing and immunization schemes.

Deliver evidence-based clinical and psychosocial one-to-one and group interventionsas part of an effectively integrated care package. Take an assertive approach to service user disengagement.

Deliver harm reduction advice, guidance and education. To include blood borne virusinterventions (screening, vaccination and treatment access), overdose preventionincluding naloxone programs, health and wellbeing screening brief and facilitatedsignposting and referral to partner services, including primary care.

Enable people to access education and employment services and health, wellbeingand recovery support activities and to signpost to other available services.

Support students, volunteers, peer mentors and service user representatives to takean active part in Via services.

Identify risks and take appropriate action in accordance with local, national andorganisational Safeguarding policies, contributing to multi-disciplinary reviewmeetings.

Maintain accurate and timely records using the designated case management systemin compliance with Via Information Governance policies and procedures.

Work flexibly, including across multiple sites and peripatetically when required.

Demonstrable ability to deliver an excellent quality level of service to people with complex needs.
